ECs:
I do stand up comedy at open mic nights with my friends because its amazingly fun and funny
Varsity Ice Hockey (1 year)
Varsity Track/Cross Country for 3 years (quit this year); voted most inspirational 4 times in a row hahaha dunno why all i do is make fun of kids and dance at our races, i guess people think it's funny/inspirational
I am also on ASB (commissioner of clubs and activities) even though ASB is a popularity contest (i was the only white person running for ASB which is why I won)
officer in science club (to be honest i only joined because of all the free stuff we get; i've been in the club for 2 and a half years and i haven't paid my membership fees yet lolololoolol)

my stats make me look like a total nerd, people who meet me for the first time expect me to be really stupid because I am such a dork and joke around all the time, but i feel like i'm a healthy mix between funny/intelligent :) lol

senior schedule
lit ap, gov ap, econ ap (micro and macro), physics ap, ASB, multivariable calculus honors, art 1 (lolol look how well i can draw, what a joke class)

anyway I'm applying regular decision.
i don't know a ton about public universities, but do they take legacies into account? my dad and grandpa both when to UMich (I'm definitely not applying just because they went; probably the last reason why I want to go tbh)

I think you have a very good chance of admission, why not apply Early Response?

You’re in… But why not go to UCB?

Michigan GPA is your UW GPA for sophomore and junior year, core academic classes only (no music, arts, gym etc.). Assuming that’s a 4.0 and a 2200, apply early and you’re in. But I agree with QwertyKey, why pay 45K when you can go to UCB for 25K?

(forgot to add, i’m applying to ross school of business. are my chances still pretty good?)

what are the advantages of applying early, or do i HAVE to apply early? is that the same as early decision? because i’m not 100% sure i’d be able to commit to michigan alone.

and i’m applying to berkeley as well, but my sister goes there as does my cousin. and it’s a… strange place… to say the least. i’ve been up there a couple of times and while it’s a nice campus, every time i’ve been up there, there’s been a homeless person or cracked out whacko getting arrested. i’ve been to michigan tons of times as well and i absolutely love it there. i love saturday football games, i have family there (and in Chicago as well) and michigan’s ice hockey team is awesome - which is something i’d love to watch because i won’t be able to afford NHL tickets.

however, i’m looking to get a great education as well, and i’m REASONABLY sure i’m going to apply as a business major. is there a huge difference between haas business and ross business? because money is still an issue. my decision isn’t going to be based largely on which school is better, because i’d rather enjoy myself at college than not, but if i’m going to receive the same quality education at UCB as at UMich, then i have alot more to consider lol.

thanks in advance, i appreciate it.

If your applying to Ross than admission gets more difficult, and I would suggest even more to apply before November 1st. It appears you will not need financial aid ( I think), so maybe that will also help. Also applying before November 1st, is just a early response on whether your admitted, rejected, or deferred. If your really serious about the buisness field, its often known that Ross is highly recognized ( likely to find it rank in top 10 of buisness programs). I haven’t heard of HAAS ( but wouldn’t be surprise if it’s also elite), but I think Ross attracts many out of state students due to it’s elite program.

I just used USNEWS to get a understanding of HAAS recognition, and according to USNEWS ranking ( very helpful), Ross scored 4.5, HAAS 4.6 ( out 5.0), and often both recognized at equal standards. Also may want to look into University of Southern California.

Also if it matters, this website may be helpful.

HAAS buisness program length is 2 years, Ross buisness program is 3, University of Southern California program is 4.

You’re obviously in for sure, but I think Ross is pretty much a reach for everyone. It doesn’t accept very many freshman applying for pre admit.

BTW, I think if you apply early you’ll figure out your acceptance into UM, but you won’t find out if you get in Ross until later.

hmm i’ve got alot to consider then lol. also, if i apply for ross as preferred admit and get rejected, can i reapply again after freshmen year? or is it like i can only apply once? or is it like if i apply and get rejected from ross, that i’m not accepted to umich at all let alone ross?

I think you can apply to Ross for sophmore year if rejected for freshmen year.

Also those rejected from Ross either get rejected from the school as one, or accepted into their second college choice.

If you apply to Ross as preferred admit and get rejected, then yes, you can apply again at the end of your freshman year. If you get rejected from Ross preferred admit, you’ll still get in UMich (unless you’re rejected from both which is very unlikely with your high stats).

Remember, either way you only start going to Ross as a Sophomore (I think, someone please confirm this). Getting accepted as preferred admit only gives you the piece of mind that you’re in.

^
Likely so, since from my understanding Ross is a 3 year program. Some other universities like Berkeley, have a 2 year program, and others like Penn with 4 years.

So you can also consider on how soon and how long you would like to be in a buisness program.

Ross is one of the top business schools in the nation. Many people share your similar academic stats, which are really impressive =D

Write good essays. It is incredibly competitive for freshmen applicants to get into Ross. Most get in after their freshman year. Nevertheless, good luck!

thanks everyone for all of your responses, i really appreciate it.

if i don’t get into ross for undergrad, i could always major in something like english and then apply for ross as a graduate student as well, right?

and what exactly factors in to your admission to ross when you apply after freshmen year? is it purely academics from your freshmen year schedule or are other things considered?
