Chances?

Major: English/Government (going for a double major)</p>

<p>Demographics:
Middle-class, suburban NC
Hispanic - (Chilean)</p>

<p>Rank: 36/377, public school.
GPA weighted: 4.46
GPA unweighted: 3.38</p>

<p>SAT: (V 630, M 630, R 790) 2050
SAT IIs: Literature 750, Biology M 690, US History 690<br>
APs: 9; AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, AP Language, AP Literature, AP World History, AP US History, AP Government, AP Psycology </p>

<p>(5's in Psycology & English Language, 4's in Biology & US History) </p>

<p>Also, 5 semesters of Spanish (thought I should mention it). </p>

<p>ECs: Secretary of Student Body, Vice-President of NHS, President of Key Club, (200+ service hours), President of Youth & Government, Junior Marshall, English Tutor, Cross Country (4 years), Volunteer at Duke Hospital, and a ton of other random ECs. </p>

<p>Work Experience: Been working since I was 16, during summer and school. 20/hrs a week. First in retail and currently as a party hostess. </p>

<p>Rec letters:
Teachers - good. know both teachers quite well.
Counselor - also good. Am currently her "assistant". </p>

<p>Essays:
Writing skills decent (see SAT I Reading score). </p>

<p>Hooks:
Hispanic background, ED (not sure if that counts but thought I should mention it), also attended Junior Statesmen Summer School at Princeton for a month, am a published poet, and have had my news articles ranked nationally. </p>

<p>Weaknesses: obviously SAT score (taking a prep class currently though and am scheduled for October test). not much I can do about GPA though. </p>

<p>Let me know what you guys think. Also, I got a ACT of 29 but, seeing as how that's barely impressive, I wasn't sure if I should include it. </p>

<p>I’m a a bit confused. Your weighted GPA cannot be more than 1 point higher than your unweighted GPA. As you wrote it, about of 10 of your classes, 11 are advanced and that’s not possible. In addition, your SATs are really poor. Since you are a writer, even though you are hispanic, you are expected to have reading skills so your reading score should be higher, as should your math. Also, even at your unweighted GPA that you recorded, that means that you get more Bs than As and that won’t cut it for any Ivy League school. Your odds of getting into Dartmouth are very limited, but if you still feel it is your top choice, you may as well apply. It doesn’t have any supplements that demand a lot of time, considering the supplement is a peer recommendation.</p>
