Chances

Hi! I'm new here but I was wondering if I was heading in the right direction to top colleges.

I'm going to be a sophomore this coming fall.

Here are my stats.

SATs:
7th grade: 1250
9th grade: practice tests: about 2200
SAT II Bio E: 750 (took it freshman year, should i retake it?)

APs:
Bio: 4 (I took it w/o taking the class)

Currently ranked 2 out of about 450

Others:
President and Founder of a debate club
VP in another club
Played piano for 7 years
Played violin for 5 years

Should I retake my ap and sat II? and actually take the AP class? especially since I want to major in biology or go into the medical field?

What are my chances of getting into Harvard/Yale/Cornell/ivy league schools? Am I heading in the right direction?

I don't do any sports. Is that a problem?

not if u have great academic ECs with leadership positions or have done significant research + CS.
I wouldnt worry too much, you're only a soph. But you might want to look into some more ECs, sports being a possibility.

750 is a great score for an SATII, I really don't think you need to retake it.

ahhh! You're a sophomore! Get Off Of This Website!!! go enjoy yourself a bit, participate in what you're interested in, and next year, come back and we'll give you some more substantial advice.

With that said, yes, you are on the right track for a good university. Maybe not Harvard, simply because of the huge amount of qualified people who apply and the fact that it's pretty much a lottery, but you will get into college. The bio SAT II is fine.

Not doing sports is not a problem. If you are not interested in them, then that's just the way it is. Under no circumstances should you take up a sport just to put it on your college app. If you are passionate about other things, like the debate club you started, make sure you put time and effort into that so that your passion/leadership ability is obvious to colleges.

Just a quick note... are you asian? I don't mean to sound racist (i'm not, really! lol) but violin and piano are both very very common among asians applying to college. The sheer number of people who have state/national accomplishments in these instruments is mind-boggling. But again, if you are very interested in violin and piano, keep it up... you shouldn't stop or start a musical instrument just for college. Adcoms can see right through stuff like that.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, I'm asian...lol

What do colleges really look for in someone's who's applying to their college? Like, SAT scores, GPA, etc.

Do extracurriculars really play a HUGE role?

Also, I'm really considering going into the medical field, so is an SAT II score of 750 and AP of 4 (both for bio) really ok?

Thanks!

BTW, I also volunteer at a local hospital and also at a park as docent. Should I do more volunteering? Do colleges look at community service?

Come on, help me!

What should I try to do better or anything? Help me get on the right track for a top college...

Pleeeeeeeeeeese...

Thanks!

you can only take a specific AP exam once, whether you've taken the class or not. and get of the site until you're a junior!!!!!!!!

You're really too young to tell :). Come back in another year once you have taken more tests and more classes.

For EC's I think you are one the right track but continue to expand when you can

EC's are huge. ur definitely on track for cornell. for HYP its tough to say. depends on how well you "explode" during junior year.

no sports, no problem.
