Chances

I already know I posted this on the MIT forums, so yeah.

I'm a junior at the top high school in my state and 50th-100th ranked public school in the country. It's very very competitive and there are several seniors this year going to ivies, one even caltech. I'm white and low income.

SAT: 2210, Math 800, CR 700, Writing 710
probably retaking in fall to get CR and Writing above 750, so I'd say around 2300 by the time I apply
SATII: Math IIc: 760 (retaking to get 800), Chemistry: 750, Literature: 690 (completely broke down during it, retaking to get 750 or so)

AMC 12: 108, AIME: haven't gotten the score yet but I think around 3-4

13 AP classes by the time I graduate:
US: 4, Bio:5, Euro:4, Micro:4, Macro:4, Eng Lang:4, Calc BC:5, Chem:4
I know, not too good...

Schedule next year: ap stats, ap eng lit, ap physics, ap gov, ap enviro
I will have straight a's in these classes by the time I apply

3.75 uw, 4.25 w gpa, top 5% and my school doesn't give rank
my grades have an upward trend though. Last year I got 6 A's and 1 B, the B being in the hardest class in the school (ap chem) in which only 2 people got A's.

straight a's in math classes (alg 1, alg 2, honors geo, precalc, calc bc)
but not that good in science... A's in science investigations, honors chem, honors physics... but b's in ap chem, ap bio, and honors bio (those courses are hard as hell at my school)

Awards:
-National AP scholar
-53rd ranked mathmatician in Ohio
-Ohio Certificate of Superior Achievement in Mathematics

ECs:
-President of future problem solving 3 years (but in it since 6th grade), 2nd, 2nd, and 4th over 3 years at state competition (you have to qualify for states first, so it's hard enough to get there), and have made it to international competition 2 times (you need to get 1st or 2nd), with an 8th place there. The competition really is interantional, with the best kids from australia, new zealand, russia, all 50 states, china, south korea, and canada. I may use this as my hook because it really impacted me.
-Science Olympiad this year. We went to nationals. The team got 2nd in our state and then 8th at nationals. I have a siliver and bronze state medal and a bronze national medal. My school is known nationwide for our SO team.
-Co-founding Aca Dec and being co-captain of the team.
-Member of a political debate club 3 years and I may be president next year.
-I've been playing violin for 10 years.
-Chemistry tutor

Volunteering:
300 hours at a local hospital

I should have great essays and good recs.

any non-trolls wanna help?

i say that you do have a chance, (in fact, everyone here has a chance), but i don't know the percentage of it.

I know, but I'm asking for what you guys think are safeties/matches/slight reaches/reaches/huge reaches etc for each of those schools?

bummmppppp... please give me some feedback... it's important because i have some decisions i need to make soon

ugh bump....

MATCH
Chicago
Cornell
Johns Hopkins
Northwestern

SAFETY
Case
OSU
Michigan
Washington University

what is up with you people saying Cornell Northwestern, and Chicago are matches for students like this. For these caliber schools, you guys will be very surprised that it is a dice roll for most qualified applicants. Some of you guys are going to be in for a shocker next year.

A match doesn't necessarily mean he'll automatically be accepted at the school. It just means that he meets all the qualifications. Yes, he could easily be rejected from each of his match schools but I doubt he will. What do you mean by "students like this...?" That sounds a bit demeaning. I don't think the OP is the standard applicant (I'm referring at his match schools, not HYP and the rest of his ultra reach schools). Look at his EC's. He has attained state-wide, national, and even international recognition in his EC's. That's hardly average at Cornell, Chicago, Johns Hopkins, and Northwestern. He has a good chance at all his match schools, which is what I meant when I said "match." Unless he screws up on his essay, gets lazy while he's filling out the applications, or makes the teacher who will be writing his recommendation hate him in the coming months, he should be a competative applicant at his match schools.

I agree with Cryptic. Looking at the OP's stats, I would have given similar chances, but I could have divided the list of Reaches to possibly Far Reaches to Match/Reaches. Cornell, Northwestern are competitive schools of course, but a "dice roll chance" would more likely name schools of the HYPMS caliber, IMO.

And I'm also wondering what you meant by "students like this."
