Any idea what your UW GPA is on a 4-point scale? And U of M made VERY clear to me when I asked last Friday that they don’t superscore tests, they take only the highest composite. And they don’t use the Common App, they use Embark.

And if it was your dream school, why didn’t you apply ED? Haha, kidding. :P

I would like to add though, that while they don’t superscore tests (well, with ACTs at least, I’m not too sure about SATs), they do look at improvements. I called their office and they said that they do pay attention to the breakdown of the scores…so it would probably help you if you send in a two scores that give you a higher superscore…even if they don’t use it for their reporting purposes.

lol, dude… I think you’re a 6; the GPA is a killer, considering UMich’s average is far higher (95-96); yet, if they do superscore, your SAT’s are certainly going to help! Your EC’s are solid, but I think UMich would prefer to see leadership! Your musical talents are another huge plus, as you’re prob going to see very few other applicants that talented. The community service and work experience are also great, as well as a solid transcript… if you have a great essay and good recs, I think you have a 60% chance of getting in; but once again, GPA is huge at Michigan, and it’s going to take a lot for them to overlook that

ok chance threads are a joke for michigan. i posted one and people said slight reach and i got in first batch. Its about what the comittee thinks. I had a 1390/2010 sat my gpa was prob a 3.6 uw and i pretty much had no leadership positions i dunno maybe my essays and recs were killer but i doubt it. so dont let peoples opinions persuade you in any way

OP – Are you asking for chances to LSA, or are you asking for chances to School of Music. The latter is a whole other kettle o’ fish, and is highly highly highly audition- based. You have the base qualifications and regional success (eg. gold, if you are section chair) for SOM, but only your private teacher can give you a sense of your readiness for audition in what is a national field of applicants.

If you’re applying to LSA, your strong music experience will tell them that you’re dedicated and have follow through, so it will strengthen your app. If you are applying LSA, however, you’d do well to get your material in a.s.a.p. because earlier = better chances due to rolling admissions.
Cheers,
K

No matter what university you apply to, it’s always about what the committee thinks. I don’t understand why you would think chance threads are a “joke” for Michigan, and not for other colleges. People post chance threads because they want to get an idea about how others feel about their chances of getting accepted.

Based on your stats syrbball, I would think you’re a slight reach too. A slight reach doesn’t mean auto reject, it just means your stats are a little below average, and you won’t get in for sure. I’m not surprised that you got accepted. U of M accepts many students that would be chanced as a “slight reach”. If someone posts a chance thread on the MIT forum, everyone’s usually always going to be told it’s a reach. I’m sure lots of those people are accepted early. Are chance threads a joke there too?

sorry i meant chance threads are a joke everywhere. if you want to know your chances look at your gpa and sats scores and see if they match the colleges. then look at your ecs and you should be able to tell if theyre good or not. dont let people who have not yet been accepted or declined tell you of your chances. yosup i know you got accepted congrats bro and btw my dad went to mit so boooooyeaaaa
