Hook:I have a really "good" life story (ie. Broke, family is mess up, brother tried to kill me etc, etc.)
EC's 750 Community service hours, VP Soph year SADD, and President Junior and Senior Year. Cross Country Varsity Fresh-Soph, Track Sophomore-Senior. Varsity Volleyball Sophomore-senior.

I don't have time right now to list everything, but here's a quick summary. What are my chances?

You have an above average chance.

You’ll get in. Grades, SAT, Community Service, ECs, and Course Rigor are awesome.
Write a great essay and there’s no chance that you won’t get in.

If you end up being rejected, something is wrong…

Hi everyone!
so I applied to UF and I wanna know my chances. Because I’m Turkish and live in Turkey (though I’m citizen and my father is a resident of florida and I’m his dependent) I dont understand anything about the AP system so I can’t figure out my chances on my own.

I know that the program I’m doing is much more demanding than AP, at least what every councelor/admissions officer says. I’m in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program:
Standard Levels: math, biology, social sciences
High Levels: A1 turkish, A2 English, Business&Management (and I applied to management major)

I believe I have strong ECs:
president of the Model United Nations society at my school-participated in 7 conferences- two of which as a chairman
president of the fund raising committee
have been playing piano for 9 years-participated in 7 festivals/concerts/recitals
initiated the first community service conference among the top american schools in turkey-director of the executive team- last year we renovated two neglected public schools on our own. (we literally painted the walls ourselves…)
tutor public elemantary school students on English (they are native turkish speakers)
SATs: verbal:490- waiting on the december results
writing:570
math:690
toefl:95

wrote my essay on how I was at first very dissapointed when I found out that our MUN society was not taken serously by the other top international schools because previous members regarded it as a ‘trip club’ and how I felt the strong urge to correct this mistake.

Sorry for the very long text but please tell me about my chances, I need to know the truth because if my chances are low, I wouldnt wanna get my hopes up as I’m already rejected by NYU in ED.

oh and my gpa is 70/100-unweighted. I’m not sure about the weighted gpa policy of UF.
Also, I’m doing both the IB and national curriculum so it is even harder than IB itself…
thanks in advance!!

UF can be considered as less selective than NYU, so don’t lose hope. I have no idea what your GPA would convert to on a scale of 4 but I think it translates to about a 3.0 or something. How UF calculates weighted GPA is that 1 point is added for each IB or AP class and .5 point for each Honors or Pre-IB class.

But your extracurriculars are nice and is above what would be expected from an average UF applicant. Your math SAT score is nice, but verbal is kinda low, but since you’re an international, it wouldn’t matter much. Oh also, UF is known for accepting a lot of IB students so that and coming from a foreign country will add to your chances.

Overall, I think you’re one of the more unique applicants and have a chance at UF.

Thank youuu! I hope I’ll get in. Though I applied NYU ED, UF has been my first choice all along…

UF has to know that not all countries are as grade inflated as the US. I’m sure a 70/100 equates to a mid 3 by the US system of grading.
