Thanks Van555. Anyone else care to chance me?

sto26- I think you have a VERY good chance- here is why- first, you are well rounded, which is what Wake likes. The Scouts is most impressive, and and you sound committed to your other ECs. Your SAT is respectable, but definitely will go up with time alone; the fact that you are prepping is great. Best of luck to you. I am trying to get from NJ to NC for the weekend so my sophomore son can visit his senior brother at Wake, and take a tour himself! The weather however, seems to have another idea as the blizzard continues! :)

AC1460, I think I your stats are very nice, as well as those leadership ECs. Those things alone give you an excellent chance, and as diversity is welcomed at Wake, I think your African American and Japanese heritage will be much appreciated. Best of luck to you.

thanks njmom! its my number 1 so im a bit worried! haha

AC1460, if it is your #1 choice, make sure you let them know that. My son, who is graduating this year, wrote an additional letter stating just that. Good luck to you!

Thanks, njmom…you are encouraging! Am I totally messed up if I sent in my ACT scores when I took the test? I am hopeful for the March 13th SAT. Did you get to go on the tour? I went to an open house in October, and honestly, it was not very good. Well, the actual tour was, the people were great, the mini class was great, but the presentation was not. The guy giving it was new to the school and there was little to no talk about the school and programs they offer, etc. I hope to go back before long…

Thanks again!

Sto26- I would not worry about the ACT- they will take into consideration that you are a junior, and besides, those score are respectable, especially the strong math. Yes, I just returned from my trip to Wake, probably the best time ever. It was just delightful to see my son and his very nice friends, as well as watch the basketball team whoop Georgia Tech! The campus is better than ever, the “pit” (where the kids mainly eat) has been redone, and the food was great. They opened a great little place called Shortys, and are almost done with the freshmen dorms. They were setting up to celebrate Chinese New Year when we were there, and if anyone has doubts about Asians being welcomed by the students and staff, they should have seen that! We went to the admissions session (sophomore hs son and I), and really enjoyed it. It was presented by a woman (dressed in a traditional Chinese top out of respect for the Chinese celebration), who has a graduating son, and she works in admissions, so to hear her perspective was interesting. She told us that this last year, there were over 10,500 applications! It had lightly snowed the night before, and I thought it might be cancelled. The room was packed with people from all over. I was very impressed, as was my son. He was used to seeing Wake as his brother’s school, but came away seeing it might be right for him, too. What was really relevant to me is that what some people might think of as the same old speech by admissions, has been our very positive experience at Wake Forest. I hope all that get in and decide to attend have such a great experience. Good luck again guys!

again, thanks, njmom! I am feeling a bit better about this. Thanks also for the run down of your visit. I don’t know what was up with my visit in October, but my parents were not impressed…as there was no talk at all about admissions, college expectations, financial aid, programs etc. The guy running the program my parents went to was new to the college, so maybe that was it. And by new, I mean had only been there a few weeks.

Glad to know there are new dorms for freshman (it was also pouring when we were there and I guess this was missed on the tour). Are they as small as the others? Good to know about the food too. I was wondering about that. I recently visited Elon and their food was great.

Thanks!

Hey njmom, our D is also a senior at Wake! See you at graduation!

sto26 --there is one new dorm. Have no idea about room size, but I can say that every room D has lived in at Wake has been small – about the smallest dorm rooms of all the schools I’ve toured with both D and S. Ultimately, though, it doesn’t matter – the dorm rooms aren’t the reason to attend or not attend a school. D has been fine with the food. She can always find something she likes – but then, she isn’t an incredibly fussy eater.
Good luck.

CBBBlinker, I agree about he food, my son had a little of the usual adjusting freshmen year adjusting to the different food, but he says the last couple of years have been great since the Fresh Food Co. took what the kids still call “the pit.” I saw for myself this past weekend, there were more vegetarian options, ect. Not to stereotype, but I am Italian, and if there is one thing I do well, it is cook! :), so he really missed home-cooking in the beginning! I thought I saw a few beautiful brick freshmen dorms? We did not go in, as they are not complete, but really tie into the rest of campus. My senior DS has never cared about the small rooms either. I remember the summer before junior year, when he was still in hs, we took the first tour of Wake while on a summer vacation in NC. When we reached the dorms, a boy looked around at the room in unabashed disgust, looked at his equally disgusted mother, and they rudely walked away! I don’t know why, but I still wonder what happened to that boy!

I don’t care about the size of the rooms…I was just curious.
