i forgot to mention i'm applying EA to Yale so do u think that'll signficantly increase my chance of acceptance? Also, do u think its a good idea for me to apply directly to Wharton or just major in Wharton through one of the other colleges at Penn

Sorry, but I don't think EA will help (look on the Yale board here to see stats of those that got in this year) and if you want Wharton, you can't sneak in through the college. Everyone would do it if it worked!!

Are you recruitable for tennis? That could put you in.

when i visited yale, they told me the admit rate for EA applicants was around 20% whereas regular decision was a mere 7/8%.How much do u think that raising my SAT I score 40/50 would help me, do u think that'd push me over the edge? If not, is there anythign else i should do to gain admission?thanks for the help

For the SATs, you need more than 50 points to just have average scores for Yale.

Here's the thing about EA. It's when the hooked candidates apply. The athletes being recruited, the legacies, the development candidates and more and more URMs. These are the people who were going to get extra consideration anyway. It's not like average Joe just has 4X the chance because he fills out the application early and tells Yale he loves them. EA/ED does work at less competitive colleges with lower yields though.

Supar, half the class at Yale is filled with special interest groups such as those named above. Half! The non hooked have to have stellar stats and ECs because the averages are brought way down by the hooked and the rest have to bring it back to where they need it for rankings. A white or asian, non recruited athlete, legacy or scion of the rich and famous can't have average scores without a national/international level talent or achievement.

It's much more sane a notch down from these schools. Duke and Duke like schools. But you still need to be above average which will probably be around a 1480 Math and CR this year. That will make you a more viable candidate because your ECs are pretty good.

You're not in range for Yale or Wharton. It's not just low scores, your debabte activities are nice but don't put you in league with top debators. Those are the ones who will file Yale's "quota" for debate types.

I have a question regarding admittance rate/class make-up:

Where can I find statistics for what the make-up of the freshman class is?

Obviously legacies, URMs, and athletes make up a portion of the class, but I did not figure it was close to the majority.

Isn't it possible for legacies, URMs, and athletes to have near average if not above average scores on SAT's, etc.? (Meaning not ALL URMS, legacies, and athletes make up the bottom 50% for SAT scores)

Can't some of these categories overlap? (Ex. an URM that is also a legacy or athlete, etc.)

I don't know where you have gotten your information about class make-up, but I believe College Board only posts statistics on admittees that actually matriculated- meaning there are other admittees that may be the average Joe that did not want to attend.

Any answers to my questions would be most appreciated. Hopefully this will help us all! Thanks

P.S.- I'm not just talking about HYP but all top-tier private schools.
