Hrm, you're an URM, which definately helps your situation. Your SAT scores are below average, which may hurt you a bit. I don't think MIT will mind 3s in non-science/math courses, but the 2 in chem may hurt you. In fact, I'm pretty sure it will hurt you. The cutoffs for the chemistry AP exam are pretty low, so failing just makes it really worse. I'd consider retaking it to get a better score.

I don't think you have much to worry about though. You've been a part of MITES which in itself will look great, and you're clearly dedicated to math and science. I'd say you stand an average chance as compared to anyone, maybe a bit less because of your scores, but maybe a bit more because of your ethnicity.

Best of luck to you!

I'm sure you know this, but I figured i'd remind you. Your scores on most standardized tests are way low. You look qualified through your school, but that puts a little damper on your app.

The adcoms will like the fact that you are a Spanish speaker but took French in high school. Great move. What schools are you looking at?

Doing the Center of Talented Youth summer programs for 4 years questions the "low income" status.

CTY offers scholarships.

full scholarship all 4 years. they paid for my travel the last one!
