Chances

I really want to attend Villanova in the end of 2011, could you guys tell me my chances at attending Villanova?

GPA: 3.8 UW
ACT: 30 Composite (Hope to raise it to a 32 or 33 in Sept.)
Class Rank: My school doesn't tell us our ranks, but I'm pretty sure it's in the top 15%.

I attend a private Catholic high school, and have taken all honors courses in my high school career. I took one AP freshman year (AP World), one AP sophomore year (AP Euro), two APs junior year (AP US and English Language), and will take three APs senior year (AP Gov, Calculus, and Physics).

Extra Curriculars:
-Swimming 4 yrs: Been on varsity since freshman year, hopefully captain next year. State and county champ in CT, swam on state team in NY. Hold many awards and records in my swimming career. I'm pretty close to two All-American times that I hope to surpass this year as well.
-Volunteered at cancer hospital since sixth grade.
-Volunteer at local church regularly.
-National Honors Society
-Hosted foreign exchange students.
-Attended service trip to Peru, where we built houses and visited the less fortunate.

I am very interested in taking either Civil or Mechanical Engineering.

Should I apple EA or RD?

Thanks for taking your time in deciding my chances, I really appreciate it.

Apply EA. Present a good application and you are likely in. Follow question- Did you take the SAT? How did you do on your AP tests? Looks like you are on track so don’t sweat it and work on that application.

what he said

I took the SAT, but I performed better on the ACT. My AP freshman year was poor (2), as with my sophomore year (3). I expect a 5 on US and a 4-5 on English.

Thanks for replying as well. :D

Anyone else, please?

I would guess a 60-70% chance for admit, based on statistics. You are on the cusp for gpa and ACT.
Engineering is very competitve.I know a student that was an admit from the waitlist for engineering for fall 2010 with 3.90 gpa and 1300 SAT and great EC’s.
The tipping point for you will be essay and recommendations.

As for EA admits , they are usually reserved for the most competitive applicants , and all students not offered admission are deferred to the RD pool. Many of these deferred are admitted in March. I dont see any reason for NOT applying EA , if you are deffered you can send mid year grades if they bolster your application .

Good Luck.

Thanks Brave Ulysses.

Should I just apply without a desired major? Would I have a better chance of getting in?

If you want engineering you have to apply to that specific school.
You can apply and enroll as Undecided in Engineering and it will have no bearing on your application or major.

[Fast Facts](http://www.villanova.edu/engineering/about/fastfacts.htm)

"Declaration of Major
All engineering students are enrolled in a common freshman year curriculum with the exception of a second semester science requirement which is program dependent.

Even if you put your desired major on your admission application, you’ll need to formally declare your major with the University.

By the end of February of their freshman year, all engineering students are required to declare their major field of study, i.e., Chemical, Civil and Environmental, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering. Students receive an email notification that they must officially declare their major with the University. This is an online process. "

There are 4 schools at Villanova , with Business and Engineering being somewhat difficult to transfer in from A&S or Nursing.
