I'm going to apply for the winter round of early decision, and I'd like to know if I have a shot at getting in.

SAT: 800V, 680M
SAT II: 750 writing, 760 Lit, 750 Bio, 720 US History, 730 Math 1
AP: 5 AB Calc, 5 Bio, 5 US History
I go to a very small college prep school in Maryland where I have been the ranking scholar for the past 3 years. My weighted GPA last year was a 4.6, and this year it's a 4.7. Im taking AP French, AP English, AP Physics B, AP Chem, intro German, and Political Science this year. As far as extracurriculars go, I've been on the varsity cross country team for 2 years, I'm in NHS, I've done some various volunteer work, Model UN, Model Congress, GYLC, biomedical program at University of Maryland, summer work at the local surgery center, and I've played clarinet for 7 years with private lessons, orchestra, and solo and ensemble festivals.
I plan to study biology and french.

I guess that's it. Swarthmore is my first choice, and I just want some input from people who know a little bit about the school.

i'm not an expert or anything, but i think it looks pretty good, especially with the dedication to clarinet and stuff...i dont know about that sat math score though, i think it's kind of low for the college, although i've heard they don't factor in the sat as much as other schools. of course nobody can truly predict your chances at a school this selective, but i say you have a really good shot.

Looks like you have a good chance of going to Swat. I know that your applying early will have a positive impact. Swarthmore does look favorably upon students who have done a lot of community service, and will also look for leadership positions, so you should emphasize those if possible. You are involved in a variety of activities, and being number 1 in your class is obviously a benefit. Good luck!

Wow you sound remarkably similar to me in terms of GPA, congress, MUN, playing a musical instrument for a long time (for me it's piano), plus some sort of research (for me in cognitive science) plus coming from a small college prep school. So with good recs and essays (ones that show you have a real passion for learning and essays that show you have a real interest in something and seem like an interesting person overall), it seems like you have a really great chance, especially with ED II. Good luck! If you don't get in there's no hope for me!

I 'd like to give the oft-repeated advice: the application package is important especially the 'Why Swarthmore' essay. Put a lot of thought into it.

You'll be a strong candidate at any school you apply to. Just work on essays, and hope that you picked the right teachers to write recommendations for you.
