Do I have a chance? AU has been my first choice school since the 10th grade.
I may or may not be applying early decision. I want to, but my EFC is 0 and I probably won’t get any scholarship offers from AU like I have at other schools.

The average SAT (math and reading) of the last admitted class was 1300, so yours are a little below average. Are you planning to take SAT again? It might help.

I think you have a few problems:

 • Your SAT score is borderline. Like megpmom, said, the average SAT of the last class was 1300.

Your GPA is very low. The average (unweighted) GPA of the incoming class was 3.79, and you had two music classes in there to give you a GPA boost. I know they were all honors classes, and your school prestige may help a bit if your school has a good relationship with AU.

An EFC of 0 is a huge problem. You’re borderline acceptance and with a small merit aid package and a substantial financial aid package still puts you taking out 10-20K a year. (I had an EFC of 10,000 and only got 11,000 in aid). I don’t mean to put an entirely negative light on your dreams, and debt is an entirely personal choice, but it’s something you’re really going to want to consider.

Would you consider student loans if you get to go to AU?

Hi all! Thanks for responding.

I’m planning on taking the SAT again if my parents will let me… They already think that I’ve taken it too many times.

I will consider student loans for most schools. I don’t really have any other option.

Hopefully I’ll get in…

You sound like AU is your first choice
So you wanna do everything you can to be able to go here!

You know what to do to improve your GPA, scores, essays, so maybe I can suggest something else. I don’t know if this worked, or whether I would’ve gotten in anyway, but I took a tour of AU during Feb of my senior year (I had already applied to AU). Right after the tour, I sent the admissions people an email telling them how AU had been one of my top choices since I started doing my college research, but after the tour, it was no doubt my number one dream school. It wasn’t too long, just a paragraph telling them actually seeing and being in the AU campus was a huge difference compared to hearing about it or looking at pictures on their website. I don’t know if this will help, but it certainly can’t hurt to do it if you’re so stoked on going to AU.

Good luck, and I hope you do end up coming to AU!
