(The reason for my low grades is the fact that I got in a huge car accident the summer before junior year and was preoccupied and missed school due to surgeries and hospital stays. I hope to make this evident in my essays)

Gpa and rank are kind of low, but scores and EC’s seem pretty good. I’m not sure what the low GPA and rank will do to you, but your situation could be made up for just by telling them. I’d say decent chances.

The question will be what your grades are in less-stressful times. I.e., were you solid 9th and 10th grade? Were you solid 1st semester of senior year?

Don’t bother with the SAT; 34 ACT is nothing to trifle with.

Same other advice I give to every other applicant: emphasize your passions and self-motivation. Brown wants to see what you’re interested in and capable of doing; what you’re going to contribute to their campus.

On that note, while I would absolutely include a mention of your car accident and its impact on your grades somewhere in your application (Common App has a box for extra information; certainly ask your recommending teachers and counselors to speak to it), make your essay about your true interests, not just about something that happened to you. The application essay is really about your desires and potential, and isn’t the place to explain extenuating circumstances.

Thanks! Especially for the advice about the essays. Yeah I was fine my other years, not 4.0 but like 3.8-3.9. Thanks a ton.
