Thank you very much!

You have the numbers. The real question is, do you have the personality or talent?

Now that you’ve got the requisite test scores (might want to retake that SAT)/grades/rank, you’re going to need to differentiate yourself from the hundreds of similarly accomplished candidates. I recommend emphasizing your musical and artistic talents; use them to portray your personality and put yourself above the competition.

Really “wow” them with your essay. In the essay, show them the creative side of you as well as the part of you that isn’t just a stellar student (looks like you are). I feel Pomona likes to admit stellar students who can still maintain a “normal” life.

Keep up the good work and have fun too!

Thank you very much lolcats4 and west coast mom!

I second the emphasis on the essays. I met the very nice lady  who accepted me a year after my admissions, and she recalled all the essays I wrote. If that doesn’t tell you what Pomona is looking for, I don’t know what will.

Being from Louisiana probably helps (forget it from New York, etc.). Pomona has the west coast tied up as the dominant SLAC west of the Mississippi, and admissions can be quite capricious. You would be well served by seriously looking at top midwestern and east coast LAC’s (Carlton, Swarthmore/Williams/Amherst, Midd, etc.) as well- all are potential stretches but diversification of your list is a good strategy.
