Visited Johns Hopkins today.... I loved EVERYTHING. The campus, the academic opportunities, the Peabody Music Institute, the opportunity for a music jazz minor in guitar, the international studies/polysci programs, etc! Wonderful university! I was wondering what my chances would be for ED and for RD.

Music is what I have to offer besides academics. I have played guitar since 6th grade and pipa since 3rd grade and saxophone from 4th grade until last year, when I dropped it. I can play music at a high level, am in a band, have written upwards of 10 original songs, and have played with Wu Man and several Silk Road Project members. I plan to do the 5 year international studies program with a minor in music. My essay will most likely combine my world music interests with my interests in diplomacy and foreign affairs (i.e. integrating my musical proficiency and passion for music with international studies) I expect to tie in my recent trip to China, the experience of connecting musically with Chinese musicians, and my desire to become ambassador to China because with a basis of Chinese history and philosophy in East Asian Studies and playing a Chinese instrument, I understand China politically and more importantly, culturally. I have a rare ability to connect musically with the people of China and I fully intend to use that to my advantage. I also expect to take Chinese in college as it was not offered at my school.
