Chances

I have a 95.7 gpa and around a 1560 on the SAT's (planning on taking the sats again in october and november); do I have a good chance of getting into UB and what other suny colleges would be best suited for me to apply to?

thanks

Is the 1500 your score for all sections or just Math + Critical Reading? What is the breakdown and have you taken the ACT?

The SUNY Fast Facts sheet is a good resource - http://www.suny.edu/student/downloads/Pdf/2011_Admissions_qf_stateop.pdf

It’s for all three sections - I tried taking a practice act and did even worse. I tend to not be able to finish a lot of questions on time. I have taken practice sats and got a 1740 maximum on one through a course on the side.

My guidance counselor actually gave me that sheet, it’s just that I want to get my application in as soon as possible, but I have no idea what schools I shouldn’t apply to, since I haven’t taken the sat again yet…

Do you know what you want to study? That would be a helpful way to reduce the list of possible schools to a manageable number and pick safety and reach schools.

Well, I was looking into pharmacy and buffalo is the only one that has it… I just wanted to apply to some extra suny schools

Are you committed to applying to only SUNY schools? Pharmacy at UB is intense and very competitive. If you’re having trouble with the SAT/ACT, that may not be the best environment for you to perform in. Have you looked at St John Fischer or D’Youville?

I’m not 100% sure I want to do pharmacy, so I’m trying to apply to either schools with pharmacy or SUNY schools. I figured that if I don’t get into one of the pharmacy schools I applied to, then I would just go to either a suny or community college for the time being. This is the list of schools I’m thinking about applying to; let me know if I should probably make any changes (kind of want to narrow it down to 8 choices maximum): Albany College of Pharmacy, SUNY Binghamton, UF, Northeastern, St. John’s, SUNY Albany, SUNY Stony Brook, Suffolk CC, SUNY Oneonta, and SUNY Buffalo. Financial need is a huge issue in where I will go to college, which is why I mainly wanted to get into Buffalo… thanks.

Rutgers NB/Pscataway
SUNY New Paltz
SUNY Oswego
SUNY Brockport
SUNY Cortland
SUNY Plattsburgh

forgot those also…

If FA is a huge issue, you can cross UF off your list. They don’t give much financial aid to out of state students. My sister with a great GPA and SAT score and URM got a measly 3k which barely helped begin to cover the tuition costs. Needless to say she transferred to a CUNY. Wasn’t worth the debt.
