Hi Sporto - I don’t like the whole concept of “chancing”. I can find many examples of stats that should be easy admits that aren’t accepted and many people that should have no chance that do get accepted. That said…assuming that your SAT is 2000+, your numbers look like you would most likely be accepted. Here is a letter from someone in Admissions that may help identify some of the traits they are looking for:

Oh, and I don’t think a laundry list of activities that you have dabbled in is as impressive as a few activities to which you have been devoted.

Thank you very much for your assistance

it seems to me like you’re almost guaranteed. very good shot

amallalieu - I have no experience or knowledge of how international admissions work. Your GPA and SAT are on the low side though and I think international admits are tougher than domestic. Is your SAT score for all three sections? Is the GPA weighted or unweighted? I do know that they have said they look for people that have had a challenging HS curriculum. Do you have AP classes? Go to the UR Admissions Page and look at the stats for class of 2013. How do you compare? A stand out essay could help you. I’m sorry I don’t have better information for you.

Yes, that is my two part. I am re-taking the SAT this saturday and I am also taking the ACT on the 23rd. As for AP’s, I’ve taken AP US History, AP World History, AP Environmental Science, AP Statistics, AP Language and Composition, AP German, AP French, AP Government and Politics. That grade is unweighted. I am not applying as an international, for I was born and lived in the US for my whole life, but my father is from St. Kitts, so I became a citizen. I’ve also spoken with the UR Orchestra director and they advised me to send a recording and it may aid in the admissions process.

amallalieu - now we’re talking! If your AP grades are good or you have some 4s and 5s on exams that will certainly help. The music is a big help. They have a fabulous music department. The St. Kitts thing may make for some essay material. A total of 2000+ on SAT or a 30 on ACT would help to solidify things. My daughter had something like a 1900 on her SAT with a 30 or 31 ACT. She had some very good ECs, an UW 3.9 and a W 4.5 and was in the top 2% of her class. Read the link I posted about the SAT scores. It is an editorial by someone in Admissions and might give you an idea of what they are looking for. Good luck to you. Let us know what you do!

will do, thanks!
