Chances?

I'm a senior who is interested in UPenn. I'd like to apply RD to CAS, though Wharton does pop into the back of my mind at times. If you have the time, please look over my information and let me know what you think.

I have a 3.944 following unweighted, with the 2 or 3 Bs having come from my first two years. My weighted GPA is a 4.056.

So far, I have been in advanced and/or honors English and Mathematics courses throughout my high school career. My curriculum has been relatively rigorous, but I have taken a few easy classes relevant to my interests at the time (namely Marketing) and eschewed some of the more difficult sciences, as I didn't foresee myself choosing a career in medicine, engineering, etc.

My PSAT score was a 226 and my SAT composite was a 2300 (790 CR, 780 M, 730 W). The APs I've taken are English Language and Composition, Macroeconomics, and Microeconomics. I received a 5 on each exam.

I was a staff member and the ad manager of the school newsmagazine during the first semester of my junior year. Unfortunately, I had to drop the class for scheduling purposes. I continued to help out with sales and ad work, but I did not publish any articles since leaving the team in January. The class was cancelled at the end of the school year, but I'm part of the group that is working to re-establish the publication in a format similar to The Daily Pennsylvanian | the independent student news organization of the University of Pennsylvania, founded 1885. I've been elected Feature Editor.

My course load this year is as follows:
AP Calculus BC
AP Chemistry
AP English Literature
AP Government (I believe it's US Government, but I haven't bothered checking because the class is in the next semester)
AP Statistics
Intro to Physical Education (required for graduation)
Spanish 4

This summer, I was a clerk at a local law firm for about a month. I'm working with Amnesty International on several projects (including the Midwestern Conference in October) and I hope to start a chapter at my high school. Elsewhere, I am also assisting in research on Michigan nonprofits and on an article about a unique medical case .

Extracurriculars:
Muslim Students' Association 2007-2011 (president)
DECA 08-09 (1st place trophy at states)
Volunteering Club 09-11
Economics Club 09-11 (Fed Challenge team member)
Model UN 09-11
Debate Team 09-11

I've also been selected as a member of a council of students that will seek to address issues related to diversity and negative attitudes.

Entirely outside of school, I have taken enough Arabic and Urdu lessons to read fluently and comprehend conversation at about an elementary level. Using free tools such as smart.fm and byki.com, I have learned moderate amounts of French and German. I have taught myself the Greek, Cyrillic, and Hebrew alphabets, and have been working on the Hiragana, Katakana, and Devanagari writing systems over the summer. I have also started a few blogs, working on one or two at a time. My most recent foray is an ongoing blog of ideas, all of which are free for anybody to use. Each post is essentially what you would find on patent files, minus the claims to intellectual property.

My school is relatively competitive. Students are not ranked, but I know that I am in at least the 75th percentile. Between 10 and 20 members of the class of 2010--which comprised roughly 500 students--went to HYPS and other highly selective universities, but the school is mostly a "feeder" for UMich and Michigan State.

I think that's everything. Please let me know how good of a shot you think that I have at admission and what I can do to make myself a stronger candidate. Any helpful suggestions are welcome. If you need any more relevant information or would like for me to clarify something, just ask me a question and I'll try to get back to you quickly.

Sorry, but I just thought I’d bump and add a detail in the process. I’m a National Merit Semifinalist in the state of Michigan.

you seem to be a pretty competitive applicant

good luck
