Wife is wondering if son should apply. I personally don't think he can get in, and am encouraging other avenues.

In-state 3.5 gpa, ACT 21, SAT 1660/2400, a couple of AP courses, extracurrics consist of two varsity sports. As far as community/volunteerism, he has none of that.

cbheck, Has he visited? Does he want to go to UW? Scores and GPA are a bit low, but he could possibly re-take and improve; essays will be important. other in-state options may also be good. WWU, WSU, CWU, EWU and Evergreen State could all be good options depending on what he plans to study. Is he a senior?

After a long lunch yesterday to discuss all options, it turns out son had come to his own conclusions, and will likely be studying Organizational Psych at a small school in California.

Kind of harsh there. I think your son has a decent change. GPA is fine…SAT is a little below average. AP= looks good. Varsity Sports= looks good. And UW doesnt value volunteer work THAT much. I’m pretty sure they care, but it doesn’t make/break it. Just tell him to apply + write good essays.
