What do you think?

Good Gpa… good class rigor… basically average UW SAT score… decent ECs. I think you have a worthy chance.

Being in-state, you definitely have a pretty good chance. But your SAT score paired with a lack of ECs may hurt you.

Hmm

I think the average UW SAT score is 1800 so I think he’s fine there. And UW doesn’t put THAT much weight on ECs, although I wish they did.

3.8 gpa = almost certainly in
make your essays good!

Your SAT’s look fine. Here are the stats from fall 2009 freshman:

SAT Critical Reading, Middle 50% range, 520-640

SAT Math, Middle 50% range, 570-680

SAT Writing, Middle 50% range, 520-630

High School GPA (Middle 50%) also known as average GPA of the freshman class: 3.60-3.91

Travelgirl, I’ve heard that UW doesn’t consider the SAT writing portion for admissions. I believed this for a long time, but why do they still report their averages then, if they don’t even use them.

We were told at the information session last spring that they were still evaluating the writing portion of the SAT. So I assume they are tracking them to see how they corollate with their admits.

Thank you! I’ll try to bump up my SAT scores and work on my essays a bit more

Are you planning on taking the November SAT? I have a pretty low SAT (1740), but feel that I could do substantially higher, like 150+ higher. But the thing is it’s pretty late right now to sign up so I’d be stuck like 50 miles away and I’m basically in the 50% range of UW applicants. What do you suggest?

If you can, take it. You’ll wonder later about what you could have gotten and where that SAT score would have gotten you.

Believe it or not, I knew a kid last year who got rejected with a 3.8. His SATs were in the 1600’s and he, too, had little to no ECs. Write a good essay and you should be in, though.
