Eh...I would expect you to at least be given a chance at the Banneker/Key. I'm pretty sure you'll get an invitation for an interview. And once you get that far your guaranteed at least 8G's per year if your not selected for the full ride.

Your academics are pretty exceptional and your extracurriculars are too many to count, so I don't see where the doubt is coming from that you would get in :]

I got a full ride with less than what you've posted.

walkera101.....what were your SAT scores in comparance to mine...i feel as if my SAT scores could use a lot of improvement...plus i am an out of state applicant

I got 1350/1600; 2040/2400 the second time I took it. If that's you're first time taking them, don't worry about it too much. Your score will most likely go up if you take them again.

My first score was 1170/1600; 1840/2400. Then I took an prep course and brought that up. So just try again.

And.....I must add...affirmative action always helps. I have two levels of minority status. Female and black. I can't help but think that had something to do with my scholarship.

Being female is NOT a factor for minority consideration. I'm not sure what the percentages are, but there are many more well qualified female students than males applying for college. Being female is more of a strike against you!
Also, UMD is notorious for putting SATs high on importance for admission. I know many students with high GPAs, but average/lower SATs and didn't get into UMD, or usually got in for second semester.
Walkera--your stats are great, but your minority status definitely helped with the scholarship $$$.

i think as long as you raise your SAT scores a little bit, you'll probably get in. sadly, i do not think you will get a full ride. you're from philly, pa, which next to ny and nj sends a lot of kids to umd. almost everyone that i know with bk (full ride) is in state, the two oos people i know are from ohio and kansas. i think where you're from definitely contributes to the decision because i know a whole bunch of people oos who aren't even partial bk. you're definitely in the running for most other scholarships though, and depending on your major, its department might offer more money (that's where my scholarship comes from).
