During the summer of 2006 I attended:
National Youth Leadership on Medicine, Summer Program in Boston, Massachusetts
We talked with the Surgeon General of the United States, Richard Carmona on Leadership in the Field of Medicine. We attended MED Sessions where we talked about Public Health and specialties in Medicine. We participated in a public health symposium and workshops on current medical issues. We were visited by professors and doctors from other universities and hospitals who talked to us more about what their jobs are and gave us advices. Furthermore, I attended a seminar in University of New England on the Osteopathic Medicine. I had the opportunity to practice this kind of medicine where I practiced primary care medicine using only hands. Also, I had the greatest opportunity to act as a shadow for a Cardiologist and later witness a neurosurgery.

Recs: I can get some pretty outstanding recomendations. all my teachers pretty much love me. Awesome relationship with my counselor, too.

I really do want to get into Harvard but I think/know that it's a very high reach for me and also with the low acceptance rate, it seems almost impossible. If you guys could help me and advice me and show me some direction, i would really appreciate it going by my projected SAT scores..

Your GPA and class rank are great, but low AP scores compromise it.

The fact that you have a 4.0 but have only passed half of your AP exams implies that your classes are easy and despite having earned all A's, your classes are easy and you don't really deserve the grades your school gave you.

IB is always great, but your ECs are very lackluster and do not stand out at all. The National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine is a good program, but the fact that it is not a tuition-free program takes away from its prestige.

You should shoot for +2200 on your SAT I and +750 on your SAT IIs.

At this point, HYPSM are all reaches for you.

Thank you for your insight and the AP Exams..I kinda blew them off which was extremely stupid on my part but I had family problems/losses at the time so I couldn't really pay attention to the exams but do you think that if I don't send in my scores and retake them and pass them all..do you think that might give me a chance? at all? or would they want me to send in my scores now? sigh

thank you though..

All is up in the air until you have your SAT scores. Your ECs aren't bad and I think your interest in medicine could be a springboard for your essays. With 2200+, I think you'll get into at least one Ivy if not more. Also, apply to Harvard if it's your dream.

Actually, you dont have to submit APS that you dont wish to send (withholding grades), so you low AP scores are not at ALL detrimental to your chances of getting in. i disagree with sinistercharity

Your first generation situation makes you appealing to colleges, especially ivies, who strive for diversity in its student body

It's hard to chance you because you have no SAT I/SATII scores, but one thing i should note is that beside those two seminars, the rest of your ECS are very bland and cliche. THAT, and not the APS, will be the factors that hurt your chances.

Overall, giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming that you will indeed score 2200+ on your SAT and 750+ on three SAT II's, id say your chances are (with only the APS that you got a 5 on and your ECS included):

Harvard University (MA) - High Reach
Princeton University(NJ) - High Reach
Yale University(CT) - High Reach
Columbia University(NY) - Reach
University of Chicago(IL) - Low Reach
Dartmouth College(NH) - Reach
Brown University(RI) - Reach
Northwestern University(IL) - Low Reach
Johns Hopkins University(MD) - High Match/Match
New York University(NY) - Match/Low Match
University of Rochester(NY) - Low Match
University of Florida(UF) - ????

Thank you very much
