As an American applying to the UK, I’m in iffy territory. Different standards exist comparing AP’s to A-levels everywhere and I look, and colleges seem to have their own idea of what it means. As it stands, I’m an international student going to a ridiculously small school overseas that has little to no idea how applying to the UK works! It’s great! Either way, I was hoping someone could give me an assessment of where my chances stand for getting into Cambridge either as I am now or as I will stand at the end of this, my senior year. I’m applying to King’s College for History.
My GPA is a bit lower than it ought to be mainly because almost all of my AP courses have been self studied, and I can’t therefore weight my GPA at all except for this year, where it was an unweighted 3.9 and weighted 4.3.
GPA (unweighted): 3.7
GPA (weighted) 3.9
SAT: 1520
-Writing: 790
-Mathematics: 730
-Essay: 8-8-8
Advanced Placement courses:
-AP English Literature and Composition: 5
-AP Macroeconomics: 5
-AP Statistics: 5
-AP US History: 5
-AP World History: 5
-AP Biology: 4
-AP Comparative Government and Politics: Test taken, but score pending. (Because college board hates me personally)
And then this coming year I’ll be taking the following Advanced Placement courses:
-AP English Language and Composition
-AP European History
-AP Calculus AB
-AP Environmental Sciences
-AP US Government
I have extracurriculars as well, but I’m pretty sure that the UK doesn’t much care about them from what I’ve heard?
