Change an italian student please...i'll chance you back

Hi

I’m a 17 year-old italian living in Naples. I have lived 5 years ( aged 9-14) in Sheffield ( U.K) and have just finished my senior year of the International School of Naples. ( graduated Salutatorian ). I am, well was, president of my high school during the senior year and secretary during my junior year. My extracurricular activities include guitar ( 3 years) and soccer. I have volunteer and work experience, for i have worked in the Pascale hospital of Naples( one month in August) and have organized various fundarisers etc. All of my grades are above 90%. I have teacher recommendations and several connections to universities such as Columbia and Virgina as a result of my dad’s job ( thoracic surgeon).
My SAT scores however are letting me down. I have a 660 in critical reading, 690 in writing and 600 in maths for a total of 1950. ( I have taken the test three times) I still have to take my subject tests, which will be spanish, french and biology. This year I’m going to an italian high school in order to undertake what is commonly known here as the " 13th year"…though i am not obligated to do so, i find that the whole experience will improve my curriculum and overall culture. ( We take such classes as philosophy and astronomy) Furthermore, i graduated early from the International School of Naples early at the age of 16.

To summarize, by the end of the year i will have two diplomas: an American one ( Internation School of Naples) and an European one ( from this high school) which would allow me to attend any college in the world - England, Italy included-.

Accolades include Honor Roll for 4 years; prizes in English, Geography, Biology, Art History, Modern History, Italian, Music etc. Participated in several writing contests and i might have a diploma for Spanish ( DELE nivel inicial) - results come in February-.
Bearing in mind that i still have to do my subject tests and that i can retake the SAT, my questions are the following. What are my chances? I realize that many things must be taken into consideration; however, based on what you know, could you please give me your personal opinion?

thank you

PS. Please take in account that i may have forgotten some things

Are you an international student? Do you need financial aid?

well…that’s a good question actually…theoretically i am Italian in every way…passport, blood, etc. However, the fact that i have been attending this International School in Naples ( which is supposed to be the equivalent of an american high school) some doubts have been raised.

What i can tell you is that i don’t need financial aid.

Based on the aforementioned information…what chances do i have?

Well, if you apply RD, the admission rate is much lower.

You need to tell Brown why you are special(your oversee experience can help you.)

However, there is no guarantee if you will be admitted or not because there are so many unpredictable factors in the process of admission.

Although standarized tests are not the most important factor, you need to work hard and try to improve them.

Based on your current stats, you have a good chance of being admitted. Good luck.

Thanks violaina…

Any other comments?

come on guys help me out please

so here’s my totally unqualified opinion
you have some beautiful qualifications…graduating early and being italian is the kind of thing US colleges love. they’ll like the fact you’ve done the 13th year, showing intellectual curiousity and suchlike.
I think it really depends on what the overall pool of applicants from Europe is like this year… do a lot of Italians apply to brown? I imagine that your ESSAYS will make or break you. If you come across as an interesting person who would bring delights to campus, then you’ll probably get in, SATs regardless. Remember that you’re a fairly unusual applicant to Brown - ie you didn’t grow up in america and have an international perspective that most american teenagers don’t. you’ll stand out a lot more than john doe who went to local high and grinds through his courses.
you could always try emailing the international admissions people and establishing a contact w/ them. they’re the ones who read your app and argue it in committee. every little helps!

good luck

Okay its good you dont need financial aid, because you would be hard pressed to get it. Your stats are excellent, and I dont think your SAT scores will affect you too badly. Being so well versed in the arts is great, and you have leadership positions. Good chances, dont sweat it. Have you taken the TOEFL yet? Do great on your essays and you will definitely have a great chance.

You have great credentials and Im sure you have an amazing chance. Your SAT scores wont leave you out of the running. You have amazing leadership and artistic talents. Good that you dont need financial aid, because you probably would not get any because of your international status. I’m not sure, but i THINK you need to take the TOEFL, correct me if im wrong. Dont worry, you have a great application. Just make your essay as strong as you can, and leave out your “connections” to other universities, just in case
