Change course/majors?

After the 2 years of general education in US colleges you get to pick a major. I was just wondering whether or not there will always be space for your intended major? I mean, can colleges reject you for the major you intend to pursue?

Let's say I applied to astrophysics as my intended major on the application for a college. After two years of general ed, I realise I don't want to major in astrophysics anymore; I want to major in, for example, Economics. Can I simply do that? Or are there limits to how many students can fill a major?

Sorry I'm not aware of this issue. I am an International applicant and was just wondering.

No. They can’t reject you unless you want to switch colleges (for that major) within a university. But if it’s within the same college, it should be fine as long as you have the required credits.

ah all right I was talking about LACs specifically so it shouldn’t matter then. Thanks.

If the major requires a particular gpa and you don’t have it, then yeah, they can reject you from it. Many schools have gpa requirements for certain programs of study.
