Change dorm assignments?

I was assigned a dorm that was my 4th - 5th choice.. Is i possible to request a change in dorm placement to a LCT?

Be happy you even got housing. Plenty of students apply and dont even get housing. Be greatful.

Don’t listen to Sally.

You can try calling Housing. It’s possible to REQUEST a change, yes. But it’s unlikely it will be filled at this point. No harm in throwing your hat in the ring, you might get lucky.

Hunny, let me tell you from an experienced RA. It is really annoying when every freshman calls wanting a room change because they didnt get their first choice. This is college, where you learn to be mature and accept that not everything will go your way. Unless a student in the apartment you want happens to want to switch into the room you have (or if someone cancels or something), you may not be able to move. All I was saying is that everyone should be greatful they even have housing. Attemping to find housing in Manhattan on your own can be stressful and pricey if you are unfamiliar with the area. We are all supposed to be in college so lets act like it and be thankful for what has been given to us.

I still think it’s worth a shot to spend 30 seconds on the phone and ask Housing if it’s even possible. No one is saying they are ungrateful for their NYU housing room, but it certainly is not a sign of immaturity to politely call NYU housing and see what the room situation is like. Upperclassmen do it all the time.

I know someone who requested a change, and NYU said the housing listed on the website is “tentative” and it seems like there may be a decent chance that a change will be accommodated. Not saying you’ll get into Hayden or Founders, but maybe an upgrade over what you got.

And there is obviously no harm in asking…don’t simply “be grateful,” you’ll be living here for a year and you’re paying an obscene amount of money for the experience…enjoy it.

If you haven’t seen this website, it has some good information:

missamericanpie, I did email housing and ask if my request could be accommodated, thanks for your suggestion =)

And Sally, I do understand what you mean, but my request in dorm change isn’t exactly due to personal preference, but due to financial reasons - I’m not requesting a change in dorm to Hayden or Founders so I can party harder (it’s actually the exact opposite)…

But anyways, thanks for your feedback!

ughh i’m trying to get out of my LCT even though it’s in hayden. apparently you can’t request until the first week of august because right now the rooms aren’t “official” (bull). and to get a room change, you have to wait 3 weeks into the semester before anything happens :/

I emailed housing office and they said you can request dorm change only in late september.
