My school counselor encouraged me to apply Early Action Single Choice to Yale (deadline Nov. 1) because Yale was my first choice. They have received my common app, supplement, test scores, transcripts and counselor rec's, but still need my teacher rec's. However, I found out two days ago that I was selected for the finalist round of the Posse Scholarship. Before, there was no guarantee that I would make it this far, but now that I am a finalist, I will have to sign an early decision agreement to the Posse school that I've been selected for.

Will Yale allow me change my Yale app from early action to regular decision in light of this recent news? I really love Yale, but I can't give up this opportunity for a scholarship. Also, what happens if my early action application is incomplete. Will they render a decision based on it, or will they defer it to the regular applicant pool? Finally, if I withdraw my early action application, can I reapply for regular decision?

Well, what if you’re not a Posse finalist, you just changed your mind? Will it hurt you then? Is there a chance your application might get lost in the process?

Well, if you’re not a Posse finalist, then I would imagine Yale would want to know why you are switching from SCEA to RD. Depending upon your reasons, and how articulate you are, it could hurt you or just be a neutral factor.
