Change for Rutgers NB? (Bad GPA, Interesting story, In-state + No financial aid). WILL CHANCE BACK.

Hi all, thank you for reading in advance! I appreciate it and I'll be sure to chance back if you would like.

I'm Asian/American and I'm in state, I've been born and raised in NJ and I'm going into my senior year.
Highschool is a Blue Ribbon School, many kids end up going to IVY and is a great public school. Many get accepted to Rutgers each year.
GPA: 2.71, expecting to bump up a bit in senior year when school starts. Grades are rising throughout the years. No honors/AP.
SAT: 1710 (Reading: 520, Math: 570, Writing: 650)
Clubs: Not so many, around 5 or so.

Varsity swimmer for 3 years, varsity swim team captain this year.
Track runner/thrower for 2 years.
I've done missionary trips for Guatemala, volunteering throughout my town for town events as well as many church events. I do bible readings as well during mass.
I plan to do community service, visiting terminally ill people, which I'm sure will look good and it's something I really want to do.

Notable info: Grew up single parent household (Father) for my whole life, my Grandmother took my spot as my mother. She had recently passed this year impacting my life a lot, about a week before my mid-term exams at the same time a week before my first SAT (I got a 1550). My dad was a working single parent, working late nights as I cooked my own dinners and regulated time for myself to study on my own. I've been extremely independent since my freshmen year of highschool, and my essay focuses on my grandmother and how I've learned to be very independent.

Major: Computer Science

Essay: My essay is very good I can say, it explains what my Grandmother has taught me and how big of an influence she had on me. My english teacher and counselors told me it was very good.

Other Universities i'm applying to (If it matters): PACE, Quinnipiac, CUNY Baruch, NJIT/NYIT

I plan to apply In-state WITHOUT financial aid (is that possible?). I'm trying to increase every chance i get, and Rutgers really is my #1. I also plan to apply through SAS.

Rutgers is really my dream school and my #1 on my list, and I want to do everything I can to get in.
I thank those who take the time to help chance me, best of luck to you all applying too!

Bump! Please anybody  I’ll chance back 100%!

Rutgers sounds like it would match IF you bump your GPA up slightly. Maybe getting above 3.0 would be a definite match. Maybe adding some easy APS would also bump your GPA just because of the AP credit points. but otherwise then that, your EC seem strong and you’ve done a lot of service hours, so that’ll help. SAT score isn’t awful either, 1700s is above average.
sorry to hear about your gma…best of luck!

Yeah i’ve gotten that a few times, if my GPA was above a 3.0. I know someone at my school last year who got in with a 2.7gpa but with a 2000 SAT. Thank you though!

My son’s GPA wasn’t much better than yours, and he got in, but his SAT score was also over 2000. It’s probably a reach right now, but not impossible. Add some other NJ public colleges. If you don’t need financial aid, then Rider and Fairleigh-Dickinson are also possible (although they will be more expensive than Rutgers).

You are definitely a match for RU, just need to bump that SAT a bit higher.

I think it’s a good match, but a slightly higher GPA/SAT would definitely help a lot.

Thanks guys, any others? Some say im a match but some say its a reach, has rutgers been getting hard to the point where i cant get in?

And can i Apply without financial aid even if im in state?

bump!

bump!

Rutgers is a good math, but maybe you’d want to retake the SAT?

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1690550-chances-for-harvard-john-hopkins-dartmouth-tufts-ill-chance-back-if-you-want.html#latest</a></p>

its too late for me to take the SAT again, and i haven’t studied. How about with my scores now?

You have a fairly decent chance with your current stats…but if you increase your gpa above a 3.0 and break a 600 on math you have a sure shot

Chance Back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1690598-chance-me-for-ut-austin-uc-berkeley-ucla-and-usc-will-chance-back.html#latest</a></p>

bump!

LOL woops my SAT is a 1740 instead of 1710! And is it possible to apply instate with no financial aid? Does that still benefit?

bump!

bump chancing back

you have a good chance there! maybe just try taking the SAT again and improving could help a lot
