Change in admissions status

Alright, this is now what my status reads. And yes it does repeat itself like this in the status page. Just wondering if anyone else has this info?

Thank you for submitting an application for admission to the University of Florida. Since you are receiving your AA degree or 60 credits in addition to your high school diploma, we will be reviewing your high school performance, admissions essay, college GPA, and the completion of prerequisite courses for your major, along with other pertinent information.

Your application has received a full review at the freshman level and we appreciate your patience as we continue to evaluate your application for admission at the transfer level. In the meantime, please check the information below to ensure that all application materials have been received by our office. If you have sent information to us recently, please allow time for processing.

We will post your decision here as soon as it is available, so please continue to check your application status for updates.

My status said the same thing. I live in Gainesville and went to the office of admissions today. This message means that you are no longer be considered a freshman but instead as a transfer. Your application has been sent to the college that you applied to and they are now reviewing it for your admission. If you have all of your prerequisites and the required GPA, you are most likely admitted. If not, then the college will reject you.

Yea, I called today and found that out. It’s hilarious the amount of different answers I received about me changing the applied term, and the major. One representative was basically calling me an idiot, and said I couldn’t change my intended my major, which even though it clearly stated I could on the last admissions status, she still argued with me haha.

Long story short, I changed both the term of entry and major after being on the phone for about an hour.

Do you know when we’ll get the results back about admissions?

What’s your major?? People at UF have no idea how to handle dual enrollment students. I got a bizzilion different answers. It wasn’t until I spoke with someone high up on the UF ladder that I got a semi clear cut answer (which I still ended up getting screwed over by listening to that answer). I’m not sure. I would assume next week. I’m double majoring in Biochemistry and Microbiology, and I do not have all my prerequisites so I didn’t get in. I was devastated at first but I am starting to feel better about it. I’m going to go to SFC for another year to finish up chemistry, calculus 2, and physics 1 & 2 with calc.

NO WAY! I’m majoring in biochemistry! I switched from chem engineering because I can’t finish calc 3, diffy Q, and phy 2 by this summer. But I’m double majoring, if I can, with music performance, which I’ve always wanted to do.

Wait how did you get screwed over, if decisions don’t come out until next week?

Also, major in something else, and then change your major after 2 or so terms. If you still are considering transferring still.

Are you at SFC?? The problem is is that I haven’t had chem 1 or 2. I’ve done all my bio and calc (required for my major) but I couldn’t fit it into my schedule this year and last year I had some extremely traumatic events in my life happen… it’s a miracle that I was able to keep my 4.0. I have just been screwed over a few times with UF telling me one thing and then I later get penalized for it.

I don’t understand how you can switch majors in your junior going to senior year?? That makes 0 sense to me.

The first term you’re there simply take all the prereqs. So, that the next term you can transfer.

Still doesn’t make sense but I will look into it. I’m really just considering staying at Santa Fe College for another year to get all my prerequisites done. The classes sizes are small and the professors are great. Are you switching back to chem engineering?

See, what I’m getting at is if they accept you as a transfer they want you out in two years. Have you had verification that you can change your major in your junior year?

I got rejected two years ago for this exact same reason. Good luck.

Yes, and yes that is what both of the department advisers said. You could always major in like botany and transfer out.

It’s sort of working the system, but no one is really complaining.

Festivus, did you go to SFC?? How do you like UF now? I’m not sure what I’m going to do. I have also thought about appealing my application but that’s a very slim chance of acceptance. I’m just really not sure that I want to be part of those giant weed-out classes. The student population in my major is very small and personal, the only reason I am still considering UF.

I have also tried to work the system but it continues to screw me over. I’m done messing with UF’s system or trying to do anything alternative, like what you are talking about. I’m (probably) just going to just play by the rules and do everything that I am supposed to at SFC with my prerequisites. Where are you from? Do you have any idea how huge UF is? Hundreds and hundreds of kids in your classes, you don’t even know your professor and he/she doesn’t care about you ( a lot of the time, not all the time).

But if you are determined to go there than do it. It is a great school, I don’t mean to speak poorly of it. I have just watched a lot of my friends go through their classes and be miserable instead of enjoying the material.

Yes, but there’s also a story behind that.

After getting rejected I went to UCF for a year and decided to transfer out to SFC to finish my pre reqs (over the summer and fall). During this time I constantly asked my college (CLAS) if everything was in order. They assured me it was, but that didn’t stop me from checking in from time to time.
Finally, about 2 weeks before the transfer decision, one of the counselors told me that they don’t accept transfers with my amount of credits (61+ UCF+ SFC). She then said that I had a unique case and that the committee will take that into account (She basically saved me, because if she hadn’t said this, I wouldn’t have even made the short list).

All in all I like where I’m at. UF is a very nice school and the professors, at least so far, seem to really care about their students. I agree about the large class sizes. It means you’ll just have to apply yourself that much more.

You can always go to a community college. I’ve actually found that the professors aren’t that bad there either, and you’ll save a lot of money. The downside is that you’re going to miss out on building a report with professors, which means less letters of recommendation/ research(if thats your thing).

Sorry if I’m rambling a bit. It’s a tad late.

Honestly, it would be a disadvantage to go back to a CC because the rest of the credits I receive will count against my 72 credits already earned. Plus, UF only takes 60 or 63 at most credits, so in my mind, transferring over right now is the best decision.

Victoria just so you know you’re right about changing your major as a transfer, you cannot change your major as a transfer student. There are rare cases I’m sure within your college but it’d be rare and you’d have to really have a case — for proof check this link under the “change of major” section [Office of the University Registrar](http://www.registrar.ufl.edu/catalog/programs/las/policies.html) Specifically says students who transfer in as juniors generally cannot change their major, this is for CLAS but I know it’s true for all the colleges.

Fine, don’t believe me haha.
