Hello all. I am going to be a junior this year. Since the seventh grade I've always wanted to be a surgeon (neuro or cardio- I haven't yet decided which). However, sophomore year I didn't do as well in math and science as I did in history and english... which is unusual. I still have my mind and heart set out on being a doctor but I don't know if I should consider and change in career path. Any tips/advice/opinions? And I know that I'm still young and all but I am quite serious about being a doctor... I even go to science camp during the summer and intern at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Do I still have a chance even if I suck at chemistry and algebra 2/ trig?

You’re in high school, right? You have plenty of time to decide what you want to be, Whether it be a neurosurgeon or a teacher or any other job. Part of college is finding what you want to do with your life.

Your high school grades aren’t going to keep you out of med school. They’ll dictate where you can go to undergrad but it’s what you make of your undergrad years that matters in the long run for graduate school. You still have plenty of time. Don’t worry and enjoy high school.

Probably biology is more relevant than chem or math, but seriously, don’t worry. If you are motivated to become a doctor, you will get there one way or another. Don’t question your thoughts on your desired career over a couple grades.
