A - 90-100 = 4.0
B - 80-89 = 3.0
C - 70-79 = 2.0
etc.

Honors classes will get 0.5 weight and AP classes will get 1.0 weight

Will the schools I apply to know of how the grading scale was changed in the middle of my high school career? I got 1 B+ last year making my GPA a 3.96 but if we had the new grading scale it would have been a A and 4.0. Will the schools know this and take it into consideration?

If we had the new grading scale the whole time My weighten GPA would be a 4.2 instead of the 3.96

Does this affect me much or will they be able to see this and take my grade as the equivalent of a 4.2?

Are you sure that the new grading scale is going to be put in effect for your class?

When TX was considering a change last year, the changes were approved (they were not) would have been in effect for the incoming freshman class. All current students would still be under the old policy.

But to answer your question…with such a major change, I am sure that your school profile (sent out with your transcript) would indicate the changes made. But you can check with the counselor or registrar to make sure.

Yes I am 100% sure. The county had board meetings, voted, made it official, and sent letters home to each child’s family in the county (6th grade and up).

It really annoys me because I’m a rising sophomore so it messes me up for one year.
…and the county decided not to make it retroactive, so they are not changing last year’s grades to what they should be on the new scale.

***, shut up and quit complaining. my county’s gpa change isn’t retroactive and i’m a rising SENIOR. so i’m like ten times more screwed over than you.

buuuuut at an infosession at princeton i talked to the rep and she said that princeton knows about the change and is going to consider that the grades were on the old system.

No need to be rude. I agree that your situation is not likable, but so is mine, just not as much. Also just because your situation is worse doesn’t mean that I don’t get annoyed by mine as well.

"buuuuut at an infosession at princeton i talked to the rep and she said that princeton knows about the change and is going to consider that the grades were on the old system. "

Thank you for this piece of information! Princeton is a great school too that I will probably apply to when the time comes so I am happy to hear that.

I’m assuming you’re talking about Fairgrade I’m from Fairfax County too.

I’m not sure if the colleges would be aware about the change, but your high school wouldn’t indicate it on your transcript. They should re-adjust your overall GPA to the new scale (only for APs and Honors though. They won’t look back at your percentages and change your grades). I got a pleasant surprise when I asked for my transcript at the end of the school year and saw that my GPA bumped from a 3.9 to a 4.1.

hey! i’m from NoVa too. i’m wondering about the new grading scale too, i know VA schools will probably know about this grading scale change, but what about other schools?

In my country (Romania), the current grading system is from 1 to 10. I was wondering how could I translate that to GPA scaled, as we have no credits for courses. Could this grading scale be used?
