Change in income for 2011 from 2010

So the FAFSA form for this year is based on last years income. Last year I worked until March when I went on Maternity leave, I was paid through May. However, I was unable to return to my position due to husband being relocated with his job. I am now a stay at home mom and looking to go back to school to get my masters in nursing. My question is does the FAFSA take into account the change in income since only my husband will be working in 2011? I can't find a job where we relocated to because we are very rural and the closest city is over 50 miles away. My husbands gross income for this year will probably be under $30,000. Any suggestions?

You can request a special circumstances review from the school so that the income might be adjusted to reflect your actual expected income without your job. However, it probably isn’t necessary. Grad aid usually is just loans, and the maximum subsidized loan you can get is $8500. If your Cost of Attendance - your current EFC is greater than $8500, it’s not going to make any difference with or without your income.
