vc08, Mech actually said the bill is dead for now.
However, like CA, Va (especially Nova) is a very diverse place. I am for having OOS but IMHO, 30% OOS is a bit excessive.

NoVa isn't diverse. Sure, you can get some racial diversity (although it's mostly whites and asians it seems like), everyone from NoVa is pretty much cut from the same mold (and I'm from NoVa, so I'm bashing myself here). I find myself liking the kids from Lynchburg, VABeach area, and OOS much better, just because they don't have the NoVa mentality of living life at 100mph in the fast lane of the Beltway. I'm going to miss them all this break, thank god I'm not staying in NoVa too long (wooo Miami/Bahamas!!)

In S's school, there are tons of students from all over the world. And there is a wide racial diversity too. How is it that a white kid from New Jersey (of the same mold as a white kid from Nova) provides more diversity than a Nova kid originally from VietNam, Italy, Egypt etc?

I like UVA's ratios the way they are -- the right balance of Virginia-ness and people from all around. Why change them?

(Except maybe there should be a higher proportion of students who love to cook and eat spicy foods. That way, the spicy-food lobby group can be louder at O-Hill.)
