Change in major, maybe change in school?

After graduation, I will be a freshman entering Ithaca College to pursue a degree in Cinematography and Photography. From since I was around 12, to around a few weeks ago, I thought I wanted to learn film, and for that to be my career choice. Reason being that I was always fascinated by the techniques of camerawork and post-production in film. I decided to attend Ithaca College because I have read that their communications program is fantastic and very well known.

However, after committing to the school, I am beginning to worry about the price more and more. I will be around $50k in student loans debt after my 4 years, so I will need to land a decent paying job right away, which is stressful considering the low demand of film-makers.

My other worry is my actual ability to be good at editing and directing. I'm only going to school for it because of my strong interest in it, but will I be good at it? Will I stand out enough to get a job? Especially since I'm in the east coast and not Cali. So after some reevaluating of my life, I'm starting to want to lean towards a more safe and well paying career path. STEM is definitely not for me and I managed to narrow it down to being an Accountant. Pretty good at math up to a certain point, and I don't mind repetitive work as long as I don't dislike it.

the issue/my choices now:
Should I,

-Go to Ithaca for one year for film and see how I do?
-Go to Ithaca and attempt to switch majors before school starts?

And say I go to Ithaca for one year, and I want to switch to Accounting, is Ithaca a good business school? I have pretty decent stats (Ap/Honor courses, 1920 SAT, 30/300 class rank).

bump

I wouldn’t switch schools except you think it is suddenly costing too much. Generally adults think 50k is too much debt. What are your options? (Maybe no answers so ppl could avoid that hideous username ouch my eyes.)

Ithaca’s Business school is AACSB accredited.

You don’t need to switch school, unless, as BrownParent said, it’s too expensive (as it’s a lot of debt - the recommended limit is 27k total for all 4 years).
See if you can double major (indeed, Ithaca is very well-known for its communication/film programs).
In any case, you’ll start as a freshman, with quite a few general education requirements; take those that are common to both programs plus one class for each potential major, and you should be fine.

Ithaca also has an accounting major, so if you really have decided that you want to switch majors, you can just change majors to accounting.

But I have to question your re-evaluation of your life. You’re only 17 or 18 at this point. And yes, film is a very competitive field and I’m not saying that you should major in it, but I see no reason to not study something that you’re interested in at least as a minor or second major. You may be able to double-major, and even if you don’t, you could minor or just take classes in Ithaca’s well-known program while getting your major in accounting or another business major.
