any truth to this rumor that U Mich is going to be dropping rolling admissions for the next cycle of applications (for current hs juniors)?

i'm sure they would have made an annoucement by now, but you never know.

I haven't heard anything, but I agree with SubMachine...if there is to be a change, it would be announced well in advance. Personally, given the sheer volume of applicants, Michigan should drop rolling admissions and go to regular admissions. Michigan could also add an EA or ED option.

Agreed; rolling admissions merely adds to the drama and anxiety of college admissions.

Though I wasn't deferred, I can feel the stress surrounding those deferred as a result of the rolling admissions program. As such, a dead of January 15 would be adequate in my mind, with the standard April 1 notification date. This allows people to figure out their college plans, albeit within a month.

I attended a prospective student information session with my daughter on March 30th. They announced that they will discontinue rolling admissions and go to an early action type format for the next application cycle this fall. They don't have the exact dates determined yet, but if you apply by a set date, then you receive a decision by their pre established date. There is no implied committment to apply this way. They said to check the admissions website for information as it becomes available.

Wow...that's very upsetting to me...i was hoping that if they were to change the process it would go to binding early decision. is it possible to go non-binding early action to more than one school? if so, that will limit some of those evil souls who only apply to michigan as a safety with no intentions of going there whatsoever...

Hmm... Thats like the University of Illinois's admission practice. Will it make much of a difference though , in the number of applicants? And any clue as to why they would be changing it?

dang I though Rolling was a good idea. Doesn't it lower the chances of people who apply early?

You can still apply early action to as many schools as you like.

If they change, I think it should be SCEA or ED just so that it makes sure that early applicants really want to go to Michigan.
