I'm a one year transfer student who will be transferring to Davis (hopefully) in Fall 2013. I've been looking through my prerequisites and I realized that I won't be able to complete all my prerequisites before Summer 2013 and my major is Electrical Engineering. So now, I'm looking into putting Physics as my alternate major and I have a couple of questions:

1) How competitive is Physics to get into as a transfer for UC Davis? I'll have 4/6 calculus classes completed, 3/4 Physics classes completed, and all the other engineering courses will be completed by Spring 2013.

2) Are we allowed to change our majors AFTER we transfer? For example, if I were to be rejected from Electrical Engineering and admitted as a Physics major, can I wait until Winter 2013, finish all my remaining prerequisites for EE and transfer to that major?

3) Is there a limit on how many years you can stay at a UC after you transfer? Some people keep saying that the UC will kick you out after you finish 2 years there from the date of your transfer.

Thanks for all your info! :)

Yes, you are allowed to change your major after you transfer.

UC Davis is more lax about how long you can stay at a UC after you transfer. You need at least 180 units to graduate (or if you go past 180 units, no more than 225 maximum units), and UCD doesn’t care how long it takes you to finish those units. I’m an animal science major and it’s going to take me 3 years to graduate due to the nature of my classes (such as most of them taking place only once a year, along with pre-reqs for the classes).

Wait, okay, so I just called UCD’s admissions office last week and they told me that they didn’t even look at my second choice major (undeclared). -____- What’s the point of asking for a backup major when they don’t even bother looking at it?

So I’m going to play it safe right now and apply to Physics for my transfer to UCD next year… I definitely don’t want to be rejected again JUST because I put EE as my major and I was missing 3 prerequisites.

Has anyone here changed from a non-engineering major to an engineering major before? How easy/hard would this process be if I had a 3.5+ GPA? Thanks again for all your help! :D
