I applied to UT as an Undeclared major.

I now want to change it, but I do not want to mess up the admissions process.
I still do not know if I have been accepted or not.

Should I just wait or what should I do?

I applied to UT as an Undeclared major.

I now want to change it, but I do not want to mess up the admissions process.
I still do not know if I have been accepted or not.

Should I just wait or what should I do?

You should just wait and if you do get in, go to summer orientation and change it then. About 85% of the students that want to change majors changed it.

If you get accepted you can change easily at orientation, I changed my major there. They’ll even help you if you need to change schools.

If we’re only admitted to the School of Undergraduate Studies, and we weren’t admitted to our top 2 choices, is it still feasible to switch to them at summer orientation? I applied to Cockrell and McCombs but I don’t think I’ll get into either. In case I don’t, would it still be possible for me to transfer into them at summer orientation?

I think that you can, at least that is what people have been telling me.

It depends on the space available.

I don’t think there is any way to transfer into Cockrell or McCombs during orientation. I think both those schools require you to do a year at UT before transferring in.

There are certain courses that must be completed for McCombs internal transfer:
Calculus I, Calculus II, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics.
You have to have 24 hours in residence at UT-Austin, too, and have a really strong GPA.
If you could just change your major at orientation, everyone would apply for an easy-admit major and transfer!

^That’s exactly what I was thinking tiger. But my stats are high except for my SAT II scores but I retook those and got a good score so if I got in for undergraduate studies would it be possible that they could re-review my application or something along those lines? I’d be willing to take summer courses as well if necessary, but if I don’t have a guarantee of getting into Cockrell then I may end up going to another university, but I’d prefer UT if I got in so that’s my dilemma.

Here are past GPA’s needed for internal transfer to Cockrell.

so what majors are students easily able to transfer into during summer orientation?

I feel that I have strong stats and I want to be able to start college with my intended major and not spend a year at UT only to find out I didn’t get accepted for an internal transfer to Cockrell. I’m really torn here because I would love to go to UT but at the same time I need some amount of certainty as to what opportunities I will have. Any thoughts?

My suggestion, and I’m just another new admit: stay in Undergraduate Studies for the time being unless you’re really interested in a program. Take the core classes including the ones (math and science for you, especially) that engineering students would take. You don’t want to take a low level math then have to take a higher level later, but don’t take one that is REALLY tough and hurt your GPA. That way, you can get a good GPA, knock out the first year classes you would be taking anyway, then transfer. With good core grades, the credits should transfer if you decide to leave UT. Don’t waste a year on nothing classes just for GPA - they’ll know!! You might also find something you like better, too.
