I know that other colleges allow people to change their majors during the summer at orientation before classes start. Is this the same at USC?

I am a Spring Admit (and hopefully moved to Fall), so can I change my major before I start? Like... going from School of Policy, Planning, and Development to Marshall.

At USC, it is easy to change majors within the College of Liberal Arts (CLAS). However, USC’s other Schools have their own admissions requirements and trying to apply to those schools from within means you’ll need to satisfy their requirements and apply. For Marshall, you will have to take several courses at USC before you can ask to transfer. Of course, you can call the Marshall office of admissions to confirm this applies to you. The following info comes from the USC Marshall website:

Prerequisites for Admission to the Marshall School of Business for Current USC or Transfer Students:

Undergraduate Marshall School of Business Admission Office: 213-740-8885, BRI 105

Admission includes successful completion (at least B’s or better) of the following prerequisites or their equivalents:

WRIT 140 Writing and Critical Issues (4)
ECON 203 Principles of Microeconomics (4)
ECON 205 Principles of Macroeconomics (4)
MATH 118 Fundamental Principles of Calculus (4)
MATH 218 Probability for Business (4)

Also, incoming freshman register at orientation, where you’ll meet with an academic adviser to go over your schedule. If you were originally a chem major and now want to be a psych major (for instance), they would send you to a diff adviser to help with your schedule.

Annenberg is a separate school at USC. To be admitted to that major when you are a USC CLAS student you must have completed 32 units at USC (not counting AP credits) and are advised to attend an info session:

Information sessions are held throughout the fall and spring semesters for students interested in applying to the Annenberg School for Communication.
