Change me (please)!

Hi everyone! First please forgive my English. It is not my native language.

So, as my name and the title of this thread suggests, I really want to get into Middlebury!! Absolutely my dream school. Sadly, I am not quite sure I will be able to, so I really need your opinions!!

What tests should I send with my app?

EC’s

French Club President, 1 year
French Honors Society, 1 year secretary
Grand Concours (national French test), I was a Gold medalist
Volunteered at a local French school for 1 year
4 week study program to France (I studied at the Alliance Française)

I taught myself Esperanto! (I love languages)

Served 2 year term as the youth commissioner on the Civic Arts commission in my city
Helped with research at a local museum, 1 year
Violin for 8 years (I hated this instrument… but I stuck with it :3)

National Honors Society (Hated this club and the stuck up officers… only joined for my application and the nice sash)
California Scholarship Federation (Again for my app and sash at graduation…)
German club, just for some fun+a crazy German teacher

And I am very involved at my church (Catholic), lots of service work, 150 hours

My essay: Strong! It is about me learning to except myself and the way I was born (very different way which the Catholic church doesn’t approve of…), I also tied in my struggle with a genetic disorder which still greatly affects my health+body (most likely caused by my unusual birth…)

Sooooo, if you made it this far please tell me what you think!! Merci beaucoup!!

I’m not going to sugarcoat it–you have an uphill battle with those math grades. There’s anecdotal evidence that a single C may take an applicant out of the running for Middlebury, and you have several of them (and potentially a D). Maybe you can explain your weakness in math in a clever way in your essays. Your 3 SAT IIs are very strong–I would submit them. Don’t submit an ACT score of 30. Your SAT I scores also are good; a 680 in math isn’t bad considering your struggles with the subject. Your ECs are decent. I think you’d have a lot to offer, considering your multicultural background and language skills. Your biggest weaknesses are your math grades. I say give it a try.

@arcadia Thank you so much for the reply. I really appreciate it!

You have a great chance!
Your SAT math score wouldn’t be a big obstacle.
I got into Middlebury and my SAT math score is same as yours.
Your stats are nice; it really depends on your college essays.
Good luck!

^^^The SAT I math score isn’t the problem. It’s the high school grades in math.

Have to agree with Arcadia. Do everything you can to get that up to at least a B-. Have a tutor, put more time into the math and less into the ECs, or it’s not happening in my opinion. The 680 actually hurts you in this case because you should be capable of getting a B in precalc. “I give up” is never the correct answer if Midd is really your dream school.

Question and comment,
Are you using a 5.0 gpa scale/weighted gpa? I don’t see how you can have a 4.3 with your grades in math.

Also about your SATs, “2260 (680 M, 790 R, 740 W)”, 680+790+740 =2210. Were you using your SAT II’s?
