i applied early to nova and got deferred to the regular pool. but i was accepted to BC early action. before getting accepted to BC, my top school was "fluid" between BC, nova, and holy cross. but now that ive been deferred from nova and accepted to BC (i applied regular to HC, wont hear back till march), i've lost interest in nova. anybody have any advice or opinions that will help me regain interest in nova? because as of now BC is looking like a done deal even if i do eventually get accepted to nova

I see this ALL the time! This is the problem with schools like nova who defer a large pool early. Students, get mad–they take it REALLY personally-- especially if they’re very well qualified. Students don’t like waiting till April–its TOO LONG! They’ve heard from other similar schools, maybe in December/January and have plenty of time to fall in love with a different school. I think schools who defer a large pool early on only to accept them later do themselves a disservice.

Colleges are always saying they want students who really want them…Colleges heres a tip to turn those acceptances into a admit…students CHOOSE colleges that really want them!

eemmzz10-GO TO BC–or Holy Cross Buy a sweatshirt BC or HC sweatshirt and dont look back!

I agree completely and I was deferred early action too

wow! these arent the answers i thought i’d get. but this seems to be accurate. it is true when you say students choose colleges that really want them, because that is exactly what BC has shown me. before their admitted students day, they invited me to an overnight program to which only a few others were invited. this showed me that they REALLY though i was a strong student seeing as i was one of a select number. i loved villanova, but being deferred bummed me out a lot and it left the door wide open for BC and HC (if i get accepted). i even saved the defer letter as inspiration! thanks for the input secondonein. and to cbsc525, did you get in anywhere else/are you experiencing the same feeling about villanova?

I had the opposite situation, I got into nova early and was deferred from BC, so now I’m losing interest in BC, and also applied to HC.

thats really ironic. would anything change your mind about attending nova, like getting into HC or BC, or are you pretty much set on your choice? for me im pretty much set on BC even if i do eventually get into either one of my other top choice schools. i guess they are all really similar even though they have some things that distinguish them from each other (size, affiliation, location, etc.)

My number one is Washington and Lee, but I’m not sure if I’m accepted yet, so Nova is number two. I love HC, but havn’t had the chance to visit. Distance is probably the biggest deterrant for me with BC and HC, since I live in Ohio.

If at all possible you really need to visit to decide. HC’s campus helped me make my decision. I was not impressed with Villanova and also liked BC except for the two separate campuses.

mose…distance factors in with my decision too cause i live in MA and both BC and HC are comfortable distances for me. whereas villanova is a plane ride away. that is another selling point for the other two schools opposing nova. collegegrad, did you go to HC? i never went on an official visit there but when i interviewed i saw a fair amount of the campus and it looked amazing

^^^where do live in MA that you don’t think you could drive to Nova? or even take the train?

I did go to HC. Grew up in MA so it was nice to be able to be less than an hour from home.

@ cbd: i could drive or take the train but why would i go so far away from home when im already considering two great schools close to where i am now? if you have any reasons please share…thats why i posted this! Give me reasons why i should reconsider nova. collegegrad: i know this is a nova thread but do you have any advice/selling points of holy cross that could help me compare it against BC? (that is assuming that i am accepted haha, which could totally not happen…HC is super selective and i was lucky to get into BC as it is)

HC is 1/3 the size of BC. Both great schools, both quite similar since they are both run by the Jesuits and the Jesuits often move between the schools. HC’s president used to teach at BC. If you like a smaller community feeling and smaller classes go with HC. If you enjoy the big time football, BC is a great choice. Villanova is also very good, especially for business.

thanks a lot. if i am accepted to HC ill definitely consider it against BC, its probably the only other school im actually thinking about. based on the responses on this thread and my own opinions, nova seems to basically out of the picture. thanks for the replies everyone

Son is a soph at Nova. We live in WMass. He often takes the train (about 7 hours). The drive is about 5 hours.

My daughter was deferred at Nova last year, applied BC and HC too, she LOVED Nova and when she got accepted there was no decision to make, it was Nova. She loves it. Great school, great friends, great basketball (and football). Why would you choose BC or HC based on location? I say get out of your home town area, meet all new people, grow, learn, challenge yourself to do something outside of your comfort zone. We are from Colorado, it is a long flight, but heck with Skype, Texting, Cell Phones you can stay in touch on a daily basis if needed. Good Luck! Go Wildcats!
