change of address

just been bugging me

do you have to change your address ever time you go back and forth between school and home or do colleges give you something like a temporary address that lasts until you leave school?

I'm an international student so I am no expert on this, but it seems that most students use their home (parents') address as their permanent address.

We get P.O. Boxes but during summer, all of our mail is forwarded to our permanent addresses.

for my school at least, we get assigned a mailbox according to our dorm room # and then on our personal info site, we have to fill out our address for
1) permanent - where you live when you're not in school (probably with parents in most cases)
2) local - which is your dorm address or whichever address you have for off campus housing. etc
at the end of the school year, we change the local address because we will no longer be living in the same dorm
yup

It really depends on the school. Some schools DO assign one mailbox for the duration of your matriculation and it is yours even if you move off campus; others will change your mailing address according to your dorm room.

You should have a local/school address, if you don't know what it is - inquire about it. I found it more convenient to have my mail sent to me at school (like credit card bills) rather than all of it sent to my parent's & have them riffle though my mail & tell me what I got.

You can fill in a change of address form online at the usps.com, you can enter in your school address as a "temporary" change of address with start & end dates. Then during the school year all your mail will go to you at school, and during the summer it will go back to your parent's address without much hassle.

I just use my home address as my permanent address. Even though I'm OOS, it's never really been a problem. I think I can probably conduct most of my business online anyway, I don't really receive much mail that isn't junk. If it's important, it's not that big of a deal for my mom to just forward it to me.
