<p>I was admitted to a master's program where I mentioned I will be funded by entity X in my initial application. Now I decided not to go for entity X for personal reasons. I will instead get funding from family. Would the university care? Would they rescind their acceptance? After all I can still guarantee a source of fund.</p>

<p>You would have to talk to your program director. If it was a prestigious award that you said you had, but hadn’t, then there could be some issues. Otherwise, it may not matter at all.</p>
<p>I only mentioned (in the funding section) a scholarship granted by my country’s public university. However since I am not sure I will do a PhD I will not go for it, instead I will go for a scholarship from my government with living expense funding from family… But I did not give the impression it was a prestigious award of any sort.</p>
