Change of Major; can I do it?

Hi, I will be attending cp slo as a freshman in september. My acceptance is for the philosophy major, but I would like to switch to business administration. Will this be possible/likely?

You will be trying to transfer into a much harder admit. Meaning, they will be looking at your gpa and test scores to see if you could have gotten in to that major in the first place. If they are too low, you may have to prove yourself with high grades your first before a transfer is even a possibility.

Hi, I’m currently a nutrition major in the process of switching into business administration. The above posts are correct. I’d like to add on some more info.

You won’t be able to apply for a change of major until after your first quarter is over. Once you apply, they review your high school gpa and test scores to ensure you would have been able to qualify as a first-time freshman. Once that’s over, you attend a workshop and then schedule an appointment with an Orfalea peer advisor. They will help set up your ICMA (Individualized Change of Major Agreement).

To switch into business, you will be required to maintain a 3.0 overall Cal Poly gpa. Also, you will be required to take macro/micro econ, a business class, and calc 1/business calc/stats. For these 3 classes, you will need to keep at least a 3.3 gpa. Once those conditions are satisfied, your application is looked over by Orfalea, and they decide whether your request is approved or not.
