Should I notify Harvard about the fact that I changed my mind over my intended major, from Economics to Government?

Do they even care about what you answer to that question?

Also, my SAT math scores weren't as good as I expected them to be(and Economics is very quantitative...), so would it be appropriate to e.mail them?

I don't think you need to notify them. The schools are all being bombarded with mail and email, and this isn't all that important a change, anyway. Your intended major isn't really a factor in admissions, and I think they know that most kids change their minds.

hmm i have a similar question. when i applied EA Yale i put down maths as my intended major.now i hate maths and i discovered that i got a 5 in HL IB Maths, which i am getting remarked. but now i wouldnt want to do maths at uni anyway, so should i tell yale? i envisage that adcoms wouldnt be too impressed if you got a 5 in a subject that's your intended major...

I just told them in a friendly way to change it. I suppose that the people in the "fileroom" are probably students anyway, so adcoms might not even notice that you got it changed.

Economics isn't that heavy math. It's quantitative but it's also alot of theory and reading. If your intentions are to become a so called "grunt" (corporate finance analyst) you don't have to worry about maths.

I don't think intended major really matters in the application, unless it is something smaller with fewer majors, and you have demonstrated interest in the subject through your ec's or other work. I can't see how Harvard would care if you changed from econ to gov., as they are two of the most popular majors there.
