Change of Major within the College of Engineering

Hey guys!
I am an admitted student at UIUC for the college of Engineering - majoring in Aerospace engineering. Now I’m almost 90% sure I will be attending in the fall after hearing back from all my other choices, and I wanted to know how hard it would be to change majors to Mechanical Engineering after I enroll. I will probably be trying for the switch when I get enrolled but I guess it would be appeasing to hear from someone with experience regarding changing majors within the college of engineering! Thanks alot for the help - and if it helps I am an international student. I’m also pretty decent at my studies, so I’m quite confident of keeping relatively high grades when I enroll

I actually called and asked that exact question. A high gpa would allow a transfer at the end of your first year.

You cannot change until second year, for which you apply in second semester first year. Chances depend mainly on grades and openings. Both aerospace and mechanical are currently impacted majors, meaning they have more studentts than desired based on resources available, making them more difficult than those not impacted to transfer into. Nevertheless if grades are high, the fact that you are in aerospace, which to a significant extent is an arm of mechanical engineering, and that both are impacted, meaning your aerspace spot creates an opening they likely would not otherwise have, should make your chances somewhat better than others.
