so i've always planned on majoring in history but after only a short time in school i definitely think it's not for me. i've always had this idea in the back of my head of majoring in biology and going on the premed path. but everyone i've ever talked to who is pre med is stressed because of all the crazy requirements there are. if i took a few quarters to a year to figure out what i want to end up doing would it be too late to be pre med and finish in four years? should i just start the required sequences next quarter, take the plunge and maybe switch later?

Scroll down to the list of pre med courses you have to take..count how many there are and see how many quarters you have to spare. there's always summer school.

on a side not, i would worry more about figuring out what you want to do over finishing premed in 4 years. there are many many many people who go back after graduating to finish premed/prepharm because they didn't realize thats what they wanted to do until afterwards. Point being, I would take my time if i was unsure

Well, have you completed your science GEs? You can touch Chem 14A and maybe LS 1 to see if you can tolerate its competition for the rest of the chem series and beyond... while realizing that as students are "weeded out" the bell curve stays the same.

What's worse? Leaving the option open, bypassing it, and regretting that you did not seize it once you've graduated? Or, not testing the waters, ignoring the "stressed-out" experiences of your fellow pre-meds (whether or not it's actual stress or the intimidation factor).

You have more time than you think to figure it out if you're just starting. For instance, you could do a North Campus major while taking the pre-med courses. History, for instance, is a pretty flexible major in regards to completing the requirements. Biology and others (especially engineering) require more rigid sets of courses that need to be taken into sequence... They have a series of pre-requisites for courses as well.

yes, take some science GE's (like LS, Chem, physics...not useless A&O science or something because that wont help you decide). starting sooner is better than later if you plan to switch to a science major because you will have the upper div classes to worry about, which require you to complete the lower div core science sequences first.
