Change over time...

Now that the Interim decision has been cut from the Rice application process....does this mean that in order to be considered for the Rice / Baylor program one has to apply ED?

News to me! Is interim decision gone?????

Aw man, I was planning on applying Interim!

It is gone from the website! My son, a rising junior went interim and it was wonderful to know a little early, yet still have choices. I'm so sorry they are not doing that anymore! Does anyone know why?

They discontinued interim decision, because having three rounds of decisions was too hard on the admissions staff.

ontheball, you can apply for Rice/Baylor through regular decisions. The Rice/Baylor results come out much later than Rice results.

btw are you planning on applying for Rice/Baylor? or any other med programs?

What?!?!?! I applied ID this year, and it was sooooooooo nice hearing from one of my top choices by February (while still being able to keep my options open, unlike ED).

Yeah Im planning to apply Rice/ Baylor

But I was also thinking about applying to the Questbridge Match Program...

haha ontheball, me too ;)

I think this is a major mistake. I think ID attracts more top students, who might not apply to Rice, who then have an extra school with the bonus of hearing earlier. Many schools are cutting down on early admission, but this was something quite special. Athough my son is there and loves it and it ended up his favorite school, I don't even know if he would have applied if he was just a part of the mass of regular admissions. Nor would he have been ready for early/binding admissions. Why don't school/businesses realize when they have something that is special and worth keeping? Did they even ask anyone before making this decision?
Maybe they feel they're getting enough top candidates so they no longer need to put in the extra effort? A sad day, indeed.

so ID is cut for sure?

According to this website, ID has been discontinued. "You may choose one of two admission decision plans under which to apply: Early or Regular decision."

But... it seems odd that Rice would cut their Interim Decision program without an official statement/press release.

this year you could only apply for rice/baylor only if you applied to rice id or ed...what are they going to do now? they havent changed it on their r/b section.

I emailed the admissions officer, so I will keep you guys posted when I hear back. :)

ok! so I just heard back from Rice.

The Rice/Baylor applications will be due 12/1. So I guess even though they took out ID, they still expect the Rice/Baylor application to be in early.
Hope this helps! ;)

great to hear back from you..thats interesting, gotta send that app in early come fall 08.

thanks for clearing that up

so u have to apply ed for rice/baylor?

No, the Medical Scholars FAQ page says you can apply RD.

thx (ten char)
