I got accepted to UCI under biological sciences and now I'm considering Economics.
But I'm pretty unsure of exactly what I want to do.
Would it be a bad idea to go to my portal and switch to Undeclared?
And uh How is UCI's undeclared major advising???
When do you have to declare?

You can just switch into Bus. Econ if you want. I think you have to declare your major by the end of your sophomore year. I went on their tour and the guy said that the average number of times a person changes major is 5 times, so don’t worry if you don’t know what you want to do.

Ok. so you don’t think it’s better to just change to undeclared… and then just declare when I know… instead of switching around?

Is bus. econ a good major for future jobs? etc?

Everyone always chooses a job based on its average job earnings, aka they choose jobs based on money. I think it really depends on what you want to do or you’ll end up hating your job and wishing you studied something else. With a Bus. Econ degree, you can pretty much do anything business/economics related. Work experience is actually a lot more important than the degree you get, because they will teach you how to do your job.

I do think it’s better to just switch around, because some majors give priority for classes. If you really don’t know what to do, you could still get advising. Since your first couple of years will be spent finishing GE courses anyway, you don’t really need to lock down a major choice until the end of your sophomore year, although there are advantages to deciding earlier.

I think it’s bad to change your major to undeclared. I think that it’s better to at least be affiliated with a school so that you can take certain lower division classes if there are any school or major requirements.
I would say stay with Biology, since I’m not sure how easy it is to change into that major. If you’re interested, take the course University Studies 2. It isn’t super helpful - undeclared/undecided students are required to take it. I took it when I wasn’t U/U, you just have to ask / email the department to ask if you can take it.
I have heard that Undeclared counseling isn’t that helpful either, so yeah. You can probably always drop in and talk to a PAA.

Pick one or another. Do Bio or Econ. It doesn’t really matter since if you do Econ and you want to be bio later, you’ve finished some GE’s with your econ courses. If you’re Bio and you want to switch to Econ, same thing.

Ok. Thanks.
Do you know if uci econ is a good program?
