I got accepted to UCLA today as an Anthropology BA major (my alternate) but truly wanted
to get in as an Anthropology BS major (I intend on getting into the dental field). I wanted to know if it is possible that I may inform the school that I'd like to have my major as Anthropology BS instead of BA. I made another posting on CC, asking if it is possible to change to Cognitive Science (the major I applied for at UCSD).

Please let me know if UCLA will let me make this change,

Any newly admitted UCLA anthropology majors going to do the same? If there are any current UCLA students who changed majors, could you please guide me & provide me with directions to make the change with my major?

I have been reading a lot about these questions lately, and from what I have read so far is that if the major you want to switch too is not impacted and you have the pre-reqs done it usually isn’t a problem.

That is so weird you got accepted to the alternate. I guess the BS might have been an alternate for many Bio majors or something like that.

But I am a transfer student as well so I am pretty much talking out my rear-end. Good luck!

Hey!!! mrD! I have the same problem! I was accepted as Anthro BA and want to switch to BS and I actually have all the prereqs done for BS. to be quite honest, I was just worried BS would be a little bit harder to apply as so I applied as BA. and ended up getting in, now I want to switch to BS as well.

Please let me know when you get info about this. THanks!

@holidays
Did you complete all the prereqs for Anthropology BS?
Unfortunately I’m missing quite a handful of the heavy duty science/math courses (I’m missing 2 calculus classes, chem1B, 1 semester of organic chemistry, and genetics)

I heard from several other students on the forum that they seamlessly switched from a BA to BS in a matter of minutes on orientation day. It will be immensely difficult to juggle these heavy duty sciences/math prereqs in the mix with the upper division Anthropology courses :(

Really?! Assist.org clearly states that those sciences & mathematics courses are prerequisites. I’m really surprised that UCLA accepted you as a Anthro BS major.
