Changes a sophomore can do to get into a good college?

I have a 3.3 GPA currently
I got a 22 on the PLAN
I have gotten a 1500 on a pre SAT test i have taken last week. (dont remember specific scores)

School:
Passed by freshman year, had a low 2.9 GPA. All CP classes now, but am going to all honor/AP classes next year. Have tried very hard (all As and Bs) and brought it up to 3.3

EC: Track, Interact, plan to join Debate team, DECA and the spanish club next year. Possibly basketball and golf/tennis next year as well.

I plan on majoring in pre-med.

What should i do to make sure i can get into a good college/possibly an ivy league for premed?

Also am taking SAT 2 subject tests in Math 1 & 2 and Bio next fall. I have 36~ volunteer hours

Your test scores and grades are very low. I suggest you take difficult classes, do whatever it takes to do well in them, I’m talk at least 3.7 ish gpa and get stellar recs and write exceptional essays. Try to get recruited, that’ll help a LOT.

You’re going to need much higher ACT and SAT scores (shoot for a minimum of 33/2100). Also, your GPA is pretty low, but if you can continue to pull it up, you will look good. Otherwise, show your inteest in premed in your ECs. Volunteer at a hospital, do an internship, join (or start if one doesn’t exist) your school’s premed club. Good luck!

Here’s my advice that I believe everyone should follow: Take the hardest class load you can take that YOU CAN STILL GET ALL As in, though with maybe a B+ or 2 here or there. Also, you shouldn’t have to give up your life to do so. So basically, do what you can manage to do well in, or you’ll sacrifice quality of work/grades for difficulty of courseload.

Thanks. What do you think my chances of getting into an ivy-league/ good premed college are? I mean Honors and AP classes will boost my GPA.

Ivy league is pretty unlikely given your lower scores and the sheer number of applicants they receive. But there are plenty of other great premed schools you can apply to. Washington U, UT Austin, Grinnel, to name a few.

What about Ohio State, Duke, Miami U, Drexel, UCLA, Tufts, RICE etc. Just to name a few? What other well known colleges should I look forward to?

Focus on high school right now, because if you focus too much on colleges, you will harm yourself academically. So just focus on doing your best for the next year, and then take a look at your stats and compare them to the schools you like…

Ok thanks for the advice!
